No freakin' way Steve ruined his prop, Tommy LOL. I know you were joking. That's a new one on meFast and I don't know sheet compared to Tommy, OPTI, Steve and Mike. But I do have quite a bit of experience with tearing up props and prop shafts hammer Oh, and punching holes in my boat.

Fast, please give us more details on the prop causing issues with your lower unit, and how the dealer corrected.

I have my boat back and nothing else was mentioned about the prop. He just said everything was under warranty. When I picked the boat up it was snowing, yah snow in East Texas, so we just hooked the boat up and went back to the house. When I got back home I'm checking out the new lower unit and it still has the factory bar code tag on it. The tag says 225 Pro xs. Obviously the 225 lower unit fits the 250 but are they the exact same or did he just find something that would fit? Will that change the way my boat runs? I may just be skeptical about the dealer but he still has not won my trust.

I think they're the same LU, but let one of the aforementioned pros answer that for ya. As for the prop causing the original problem, if that was the dealer's claim (which I still think was BS) and he put it back on the new LU, I'd....

1. Darned sure ask him for a detailed explanation of his original statement.

2. Find a new dealer, mechanic in the future.

He did make the statement to me that he thought the prop guy ruined my prop and that the prop was probably what caused the damage. I guess he was just covering Mercury's bass. He suggested I buy a new prop. I asked him for a price on a 26p Fury, he said he only had a 25 and that he thought that was a better fit for the boat. I passed on the 25.
I bought the boat 3 hours from home so it's a little far to go to the original dealer. Besides it was a small shop, he only had the one Legend and only small motors being worked on. I called around to Mercury Dealers and their best suggestion was take it to my curret shop. Even though he is an hour away he is also a Legend Dealer. I've taken the boat in twice, my first visit was more aggravating than this one. My next choice will be towards Dallas or Houston, I'm in the middle of both. Maybe my problems are over? Still like to hear more about the 225 lower unit.

Set prop ans hub back on shaft and put in forward and prop won't turn. Put in nuetral prop spins. Put in reverse and prop won't turn. Start scratching my head. I tighten everything back up, troll from bank, fire up the motor, put in forward to run to the hole, motor revs up boat does not move. So, the motor cranks fine, goes in gear, comes out of gear, no noise. Give a little gas and the prop will not turn, I couldn't even turn the prop with the paddle while in gear. I'm guessing drive shaft. But why can't you turn the prop manually if drive shaft is broke. Remember the part about no noise. The prop shaft looks straight, just got prop worked and it still looks clean and I don't remember feeling anything in the water. It's going to the shop, I just like to know what's up. Maybe.

It could be worse....My son wass running my 2007 BassCat P-4 with 200 Opti down the lake at Blastoff in the TBF Top 6 Tournament a few weeks ago when my motor just quit, period. He callem me at 0700 on Sunday and said "Dad, what's up when all you hear is this...." (Nothing but alarms). I said "You broke something"...
When he got the boat home we found out what it was....Connecting Rod sticking through the Power Head.... Sure glad the motor is under warranty till 2012....

Tough break on the motor, good thing you had the warranty, hate to hear what that would cost, a new motor I assume.

Here's the issue with dealers getting involved with warranty work. If they accept and fix the problem, they are liable until they are paid by Mercury. Mercury wants all parts shipped back to study (naturally right?). If they find the problem to be owner fault, they ship the liability back to the dealer. Then the dealer is on the hook to get paid. Very few dealers want to be in this loop on expensive repairs. It's better to ask for Mercury to declare at the shop first, then if they decline, ship it to insurance. Also don't file a claim until you hear from Mercury first. Otherwise you have filed and it's a check mark even though there has been no adjustment. I'm sure Mercury will come out with a new design soon, sounds like a lot of problems with the XS (racing motor for everyday use).

Hello Fastr.......If you're in E. Tx., give HW Marine a phone call at (903)561-0388 and ask for Joe Berg. Their service folks there are great. I drive from Dallas to Tyler because of the quality of service...they know what they are doing. Tell Joe that Mike Dennis sent ya.

Good Luck
