I'm using a NEW Navionics card...never was installed anywhere but into this Lowrance HDS unit which is also new. The Lowrance unit did have a software update... it had to so it could read Navionics cards.
The contour lines when using the navionics chip are a very faint white and almost invisable in sunlight. Otherwise the disply is bright, sharp and had great colors.
BTW, I've used extensively Navionics maps on non HDS Lowrance units and on those older Lowrance units, the Navionics map contour lines look good.

Have you tried a different card in the unit to see IF it does that same thing?
I'm running HDS units and haven't had any problems with the Navionics mapping after the updates. Just giving suggestions on eliminating one or the other as the problem.
Have you loaded the Structure Scan update. I did notice that all mapping updates were reloaded on the download.
Lowrance didnt wait for Navionics to get their mapping up to speed for the HDS units. Lowrance originally sent the software to Nav. so the process didnt take so long. After the first release they found out that the release wasnt complete and then re released another patch.

But I will see if I can borrow one and give it a try. I upgraded the factory installed HDS 5 software from 2.1.30.58 to 2.5.31.56 which shows to still be the latest version I think. Before that update, the Navionics card wasn't supported. I hope to find another HDS 5 unit to compare with as well.... No way are you guys seeing what I'm seeing for HDS/Navionics contour lines and being happy with it. Thanks for suggestions and the feedback on your units. Lou

UPDATE: This problem of contour lines being faint has been corrected...... If in the Lowrance setup menu, PHOTO OVERLAY is turned on, then the lines become visable. There is not photo overlay information on the chip, but this setup option still seems to directly affect the viewability of the contour lines.
