The cormorant is what we usually have in big numbers but we also have Anhingas and they also eat fish. But you seldom see Anhingas in big groups and a cormorant permit doesn't cover Anhingas so know the difference. Their bodies look very similar but the Anhinga has a distinctive thin, pencil neck and juveniles will have a lighter coloration.

I was driving across Ray Hubbard the other day and there were Cormorants in the water from Bass Pro all the way to the other side. And they seemed to all be feeding. 1000s of them. I bet the shad were being wiped out big time.
I don't think the permit would be that difficult to hunt under on private land. The application looks simple. Just don't shoot any off target birds, and stay up on the record keeping.
