OK , now that the tourney is over maybe I can get some help. I fished yesterday in the tourney and did not do well at all. What worked for you. I tried shallow back coves in the flooded areas mostly. I threw flukes, worms, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and senkos with no luck. I also fished some main lake points that drop into deeper water with jigs and shackyheads. I only found the shad in the backwaters but could not catch anything. Please any info would help, I do not want where you fished, just what patterns and baits worked for you.

I fished a club tourney there yesterday and I too found it tough.\ I fished shallow I fished deep. I caught one 14" fish on a spinnerbait. Had one good bite on a bandit crankbait off a point in about 3ft of water near flooded brush. Fish pulled off.
We had two guys weigh limits of small fish. 8.6lbs won it.
guy that won fished a crankbait in the backs of coves over on Little Elm side and threw the bait basically up on the bank.
Other guy fished real shallow and way back up in the creeks on past Little elm bridge. Fished a Fluke up shallow.

Caught a few decent keepers out there last Saturday on a spinnerbait thrown close to flooded brush in the back of a shaded cove. Water was about 3ft. deep, calm, and a little clearer than the rest of the spots I fished that day.

My partner and I were fortunate to have won 5th place in the Saint Judes tournament. We had good success with an early spinnerbait bite (2 good keepers by 7:30). We lost 2 more good ones early on a spinnerbait. The rest of the day we threw jigs and finesse, finished with 5 keepers for 11 and some change. The key (after the early bite) seemed to be fishing REEEEl slow. The most of the bites were a faint tick or just a swim off, water depth was generally in the 4 to 6 foot depth range.Rocks was our targeted structure. Hope this helps you Txcatfish 72 Ronny

Sounds similar to what we did with the same targets but not the same results. Maybe we needed to slow down a little more.

I spent the whole day covering as much water as I could with a spinnerbait. I caught my fish in water from 1' to 8' around brush. I brought a 5 fish stringer to the scales of 17.05 on Saturday and took home second place. I lost a fish in the 4' range that insted of takeing my time and neting the fish I tried to hoist it in the boat. As the fish came out of the water my line snaped and the fish bounced across the front deck of my boat and back into the water on the other side. Had I landed that fish I could have replaced the one fish that was about 2' and taken the 1st place prize. Needless to say I am very happy with 2nd.

Great job Bryan! That had to be painful to see that one bounce across the deck and off the other side of the boat.

I was out at Lewisville on the Hidden Cove side yesterday, and the shad were busting all over the place. I would see a few blowups from fish chasing the shad. I threw everything at them. Cranks, buzz, spinners, senkos, swimbaits. I had a few blow bys, and hooked into 4 but only got my hands on two. Why is Lewisville so dog gone hard to fish when shad are all over the place. I am giving a slow slow presentation, pulling through the shad, and letting the bait fall to imitate a would baitfish, but nada.

Bryan, Congrats on your second place finish. And thanks for the information. I tried a spinnerbait around cover. Maybe I needed to slow down or try a different color. I was using a double willoe leaf whita and red. Trying to match the shad.

Txcatfish72, my partner and I were fortunate enought to win the St Jude's Saturday. We had one over 5 on a spinnerbait first thing then went 5 hours without a keeper. Had a key bite around noon on a plastic worm that keyed us in on an area. The bites were very light, just felt the weight. Caught them all in flooded cover / 4 ft of water.

"Why is Lewisville so dog gone hard to fish when shad are all over the place"
You may have answered your own question. With an abundance of baitfish in the pockets now the bass are gonna prefer the real deal. You might try a faster more erratic retrieve so they dont get a good look at it and strike out of reaction. Maybe try some different colors too, that might stand out. I know they are seeing a ton of white spinnerbaits right now.
