pondbass,

try this for hackle durability instead of superglue:

don't tie the hackle feather in at the tail with your chenille. tie in a piece of fine wire/ultra fine wire instead.

wrap chenille forward as usual, then tie in hackle at front where your thread head will be. palmer your hackle BACK to the tail.

holding the hackle feather in place, wrap the wire a few wraps all the way forward to the front over the hackle, locking it in place. trim the excess hackle feather at the tail and wire and feather at the head.

build your thread head or tie off with whip finish, etc.

this is the way to build a wooly bugger for fish with rough lips or teeth.

GREAT choice of vise, by the way!

And you can see the Wooly Bugger tied this way on the Peak Tying DVD.

Pondbass, I have a tieing video Lefty Kreh did that shows a neat trick for keeping the hackle in place. He doesn't wrap the chennile alone and then the hackle. He ties on the hackle then forms a loop the same length as the hackle. He then pulls the hackle, chennile, and loop together, puts on the hackle pliers and twists all the parts together. After he twists it, he wraps the whole lot forward, ties off, and finishes. I've been using that trick and it works great.

FISH ON!!! ummmmm off

I do something similar to that. I wrap one or two wraps of hackle, then a wrap of thread, then a wrap or two of hackle, then another wrap of thread. If you do all the hackle...and only tie in at the tail, and the head...the hackle will come loose on you after a while.
