That rio is a beautiful fish. I have always wanted to catch some of those, maybe 1 day I can. You should have gotten him certified because the state record is only 1.592 pounds. That would be awesome to hold a state record. I wish I could get them to live in my pond, but they usually die off when the water gets below 50 degrees.
P.S. If you ever need a fishing buddy to go help you catch some of those just let me know.

Well if you're ever down this way, just drop an email before you come and I'll see if we can get on my friends ranch. They come from a spring fed creek on his 2K acre ranch. You could break that state record several times in one day on his place Although, I haven't been there since this horrible drought has kicked in. I hope it didn't dry up. There are some huge ones in the Devils River and San Felipe Springs in Del Rio as well.

when i lived in n.y. i would consistently fill a 5 gallon bucket halfway with 1 lb plus bluegill that you couldn't wrap your hand around. my dad, brother, mom and i would catch them from a country reservoir.
it was a hidden spot that was known by a few amish people and a handful of others. as we walked to the water from the dirt road, through the woods, we would fill bottles with crickets and grasshoppers along the way.
there were trout that reached 18", 1 pound perch (not what texans call perch, real perch) large mouth bass, bullhead, bullfrogs...i really miss that spot. it was absolutely beautiful and no one was ever there, only the deer, bear, crickets, and birds.
“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.”- 1 Timothy 2:5-6

Meadowlark...Ive always enjoyed that pic of that large Bream. I have to say my largest Redbreast was around 10 or so inches. Used to have access to a small 68 acre spring fed lake that had large Bluegill and Redbreast stocked in it. was nothing to put 50 fish in a basket in hour or so. I like catching Sunfish of all subtypes. But Redbreast, Warmouth,Longear,Bluegill,Redear,Green Sunfish etc... Warmouths are my favorite a lot of fun on beetle spins when spawning. Ive not caught many or any war-mouths in quite some time though. I had a pretty good Red Brest spot on Ray Hubbard but it really depends on the water levels and temp oxygen etc.. Hear is a couple links to sunfish stuff in/of Texas. http://www.aa-fishing.com/tx/texas-panfish-fishing.htmlhttp://www.texasflyfishing.com/sunfish.htmOf course TPWD has individual links for each. 4th from Bottom= sunfish http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/landwater/water/aquaticspecies/inland.phtml

Here is the biggest one I have a pic of It streched over the width of one of my pontoons. On a fly rod in Town lake last summer.
It's more than the catfish would do.
