Just to make a note ..todays date 03/02/03..Lavon is full..Anymore serious rain and the Gates should open..Not sure if that's good or bad..either way...ANTICIPATION RUNS HIGH FOR SPRINGTIME!!!
I've walked the woods below the dam and have a pretty good idea of the lay of things...may go back and take some pics tommorow..

If you do take some pictures, I'd sure like to see them. I hear great things about the lavon spillway, but the only time I ever made it out there I thought somebody was filming a karate movie. Oops, that may have been a bit insensitive, sorry, I take it back.
I wish they would start releasing a decent amount of water out of Ray Roberts. I've caught lots of fish there, and the crowds were usually small.

Wylie Crappie man. which dam are you talking about? The only one I know is so filthy and so crowded with people that is impossible to fish at. (the one by the closed road)

I don't know what youre trying to get at but that is the truth, on top of what I said 88% of them have no fishing License and keep everything they catch large or small. Am I being racist? absolutely not. I myself am a foreigner as Wyliecrappie man knows, he's met me before.

You and I should go fishing, you'll see what I mean.

Peace.

CRAPPIE FISHING IS GREAT BEHIND THE DAM WHEN THE GATES ARE OPEN.THE ONLY DRAWBACK WITH THE FISHING AREA ARE THE PEOPLE SNAGGING BUFFALO.THEY WALK OVER YOU TRYING TO LAND THE FISH.THE CRAPPIE NORMALLY ARE BITING SO WELL YOU TEND TO OVERLOOK IT.

FIRST And Foremost..I take offense in a major way..To the reference to those people..I have many Friends among them..They have been as friendly as anyone else I've met down there...I've seen people of all races take small fish..as well as fish with no license...Curt can vouch for me on this...there are some Rude and I mean Bigtime Rude people of all walks of life at any great public fishing hole...I say this..In most cases, if you give a smile, you get one..If you give grief, you can bet you'll get it...Now, the people who get there first..are the ones who usually get the good spot..What they do in that spot is their business...Wait for them to leave..then move in... that's your right and the American way. Don't be afraid to get close..just don't intefere....Treat every person with dignity and respect and you are most likely going to get it in return...There are exceptions to every thing I've said here..But it's not just those people...When you can't beat them..Join them...it works for me..I've fished with most of these people at White Rock..and at the Dam..Yes I've had some Rude people need to be responded to in kind..Like the time I bit a guys line in two to get the 3rd tangle off my line.. hehehe..but he was an exception..And he had been warned numerous times the he was crossing my line everytime he casts..But this was an exception..not the rule....

My best suggestion: Get there early..come often..Find a spot that holds fish consistently and get there first next time...if you come when everyone is already there..it can be tough..If you just can't stand the crowd..find a place in the woods..those fish aren't just by the spillway..

I tried Mallard Park at Lavon yesterday with live minnows. Only for about an hour, but no strikes. I had my daughter with me, so I wasn't going to keep her out too long. Hot Chocolate sounded good after an hour.

I haven't had any luck there when the gates were open. It seemed like they were open for a month straight last year. I may try some deeper water in the next couple of days.

WENT UP THE RIVER LAST WEEK-END IN THE BOAT FROM HUBBARD. NEVER WENT ALL THE WAY UP BEFORE BUT I MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO HWY 78. VERY SCENIC. SEEN ABOUT 30 CROWS GIVEN CHASE TO A BALD EAGLE. DID NOT EVEN FISH, JUST DROVE THE BOAT AND SCOUTED OUT SOME LIKLY PLACES FOR SOME SANDBASS FISHING.

Yeah, catching sandbass from a canoe down there is pretty fun. Done that the past couple years. Just drive down the dirt road next to 78 and plop the canoe in and off you go. Much cleaner that when the bank is really muddy.
