For the life of me I don't know why anyone cares after all this BS! I know I don't!!!

The majority of us if not all of us, know the same as "Wishin" answered your questions....will he be the only one to find out what new technique you have to catch crappie or do we all need to fully answer the questions?

Please, let us all know.

My .02 for the following questions:
1. Is it neccessary to shoot or skip a jig under the docks to catch fish? Yes, skip it under the dock on the shady side.

2.Is there another technique that does not require that much skill. I guess there could be...if you can think of one let us all know.

3.Which way do you think a crappie positions itself on a piece of structure like a dock? My answer to this would be...any way the fish wants to...I do not think fish have any certain way of "hanging out"

4. Crappie facing the shore and when you shoot a jig under a dock the jig comes to the fish in a natural presentation from the shore....My answer would be this: crappie feed looking up and can usually see aprox 5 foot in front of them...depending on the clarity of the water. So I think as long as you present the jig in a manner the crappie can see it it should not matter what direction you cast or shoot your bait.

5. Crappie facing horizontal to a depth contour under the dock and they notice the bait as it swings by....see above.

6. Crappie facing the vertical or horizontal structure on a dock or bridge....see above.

More Questions:

7. What do the crappie do when you add a scent to the water around them?? Do they come to it or do they scatter from the area?
....my 02...I would have to say they would come to it, as crappie are curious creatures by nature, but if the scent stinks I don't think they would want to smell it. Catfish on the other hand like things that smell bad as they are the clean up crew and eat things that are dead or dying. Crappie tend to like clean live looking bugs or bait fish and such.

8. What happens when you hit the dock with your boat? It makes noise with little to no affect on the fish.

9.Does that ring the dinner bell because one might expect small insects to be dislodged from the dock, which in turn fall into the water. Yes.

10. Do the fish scatter and become weary. No, not for long...they come back to their comfort zone.

Now, that I've given you my .02....where is my bone?

Ok lets see........... We first find a nice looking dock.. ...shoot a jig on top of it by accident because we cant shoot jigs very well... .........make sure all the crappie are looking up and towards the shore.... ........run into the dock with the boat (careful not to spill beer) but knocking over a bucket of crappie attractor and knocking the jig thats on top of the the dock in the water.. ...........ring the dinner bell and hang on ????

Due to a disability that does not allow me to bend or stoop in the boat I have trouble shooting or skipping jigs under the docks. I do not have the stability to fish except sitting down. The angle needed to achieve those methods are not possible for me. I kept hearing people say how many jigs they loose using those methods. That is an understatement for me.

The new technique for me is to use a long pole and let the jigs through the holes or breaks between the boards on the decks. Once the fish is on I have to use a long poled net to get the fish from under the dock.

The reason for the post was feedback on positioning of the jigs, depth under the docks, where fish are being caught and how far back from the edges would be a good place to start to eliminate as much water as possible.

Next time you go fishing and you locate the fish under the docks, try using this technique and see if it works and is a feasible alternative.

I am not selling anything and would still like to find a used aqua-view to look under the docks to answer the questions and many more that I have.

While growing up in Ohio on Lake Erie, many of the boat docks in the marinas had large enough gaps to fish in the gaps and actually lift the caught crappie back through the same gap you were fishing.

That was all fine and good until my dad hooked a northern pike one time while fishing this method.. he eventually landed it but proceeded to lip the fish. Ouch.

The majority of the docks on CC do not have enough room to lift a fish through. Most of the dock just barely have enough room to put a small jig or minnow through. If the fish are there, its fish on. The main problem is getting the fish out and off without breaking off.

The main thing that I have seen with this method, is that some dock owners find it "intrusive" to their dock. That's why I just shoot under then and they don't have a problem with it. Gotta be nice to those dock owners...especially when their dock is a good crappie home

Another way to get around the mobility issue is to use your long pole and about 5' of line off the end of it. Just stick your pole under the dock and jig it that way. When the fish is on, just run the rod back through your hands and bring him in. We do this a lot when the water is up on CC

Thats what I was looking for. I can see the dock owners concern regarding "intrusive" by fishing on or through their dock to connect with fish.

Do you think fishing over a dock to reach sweet spots is tresspassing?

They even get testy when you fish under there docks and start pulling out lots of fish.

My boat sets to high off the water to stick the rod underneath the dock in high or normal water conditions. It usually goes down at to steep of an angle to reach the same distance and keep the jig in the strike zone. To much leaning over the side of the boat will cause someone, mainly me to get wet!!

If I meet a dock owner, I always offer them some fish, and am very curteous when I am around docks. You may not see the owners, but they might be looking at you

As far as trespassing by dropping a jig down through their dock...I'm not sure, but I do think it is a little "intrusive"...in my opinion.

I was thinking along the lines that Duck_Jerky was. If you are going under the dock, then you are not really messing with their property. If you go above the docks, then you are "crossing" their property (the dock) to get to the public water right?

You might meet some ornery old fella who takes offense to that. On the other hand, you might meet a cutie who wants to know what you are doing!
