With all of the rain we are getting in DFW today, and supposedly for the next 3-4 days. How do the bass react to something like that? Do they go deep, or shallow, or pretty much stay the same? Are they more or less active? I don't know if the lake will change a whole lot, but it might some. I guess I have the same question for fishing in the rain also.

Thanks for the help

I would go shallow,,spinner baits and crank baits,,cover water till you catch a couple of fish in the same place,,then slow down and work the area over,,just sayin

Places where water is running in will be like a buffet. Fish love current.
Muddy water may push fish tight to cover and shallow.
I could be such a drastic change, it shuts the fish down for a minute, or at least spread them out and thin.
Then again they could be going nuts!!

Bass fishing is like a 30,000 acre golf course with no flags and five holes you can't see- Tim

Thanks for the comments so far!
I have recently contracted the T-rig bug so it's hard for me to put it down right now. Is that still an effective bait in these conditions?

Also, this rain could force some floaters out. So, be careful

I'll reinforce the comments about finding the feeder creeks. I heard Edwin Evers talk about this, he said that runoffs provide current, oxygen and new nutrients to the lake.

Mud lines are pretty good too. Once the feeders clear they will tend to hold fish in a hungry mood. I prefer the clear water over muddy. If fishing mud I use baits that make a lot of vibration and work them slow.

the fish were pulled off the banks and weeds this morning- sitting about 10 yards out in front. biggest fish came off a mudline, like J175 said. missed a few others, while not paying attention and half-arse hookset.

This time of year rain almost inevitably lowers the surface temperature of lakes, ponds, etc., and infuses the uppermost layer of the water column with more dissolved oxygen. Both of these things will tend to bring fish shallower as they provide fish with a more wholesome environment to live in.

Also, the runoff will increase the turbidity of the water near the shore, and in creek channels. This will provide bass with a better environment for ambushing prey.

Thus, going shallow is not a bad plan. Id include spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and poppers in my attack plan under current conditions here in East Texas.

Where muddy water collides with clearer water...its very noticable when you come across one.
