I would suggest my major pain in the buttocks casting scenario: casting from the backseat of a boat across my body on the "wrong" side.
George, you bring up an interesting point: would the participants use their own gear or would there be a rod/line combo at each station to be used by everyone to level the playing field?

My vote is to keep this as simple as possible. You just bring your own rod and use whatever you want to use where ever you want to use it.
If we can pull it off, this first one will be very informal and it is really aimed at giving us a chance to practice some unusual casting situations.
My thoughts are that it would be beneficial to go through the course using a heavier rod (7 or 8 wt) and then repeat the whole course using something light like a 3 or 4 wt. Just to get the practice and experience using a variety of rod wt's in similar casting situations.
However, I'm open to suggestions and ideas.
Thanks, Rex

Nice addition, Windknot. The Orvis Course in Bend (and another at their headquarters in Vermont) were the inspiration for the casting course at the TU meeting. They are set up like golf holes, with varying types of obstacles to overcome.
I'd suggest keeping it as realistic as possible, so we get practice doing the types of casts we need to master in order to catch fish.

Not dead, I just haven't had a free Saturday to plan it. It may be another 3 or 4 weeks before we can try it.

Sounds like a hoot!!! Ya'll plan it, set up a day and time, and I'll try to get there. I'll try not to embarrass myself too bad in front of my new friends... Did someone say BBQ? ??? IF we could find JB from the old TFR, I'm sure we could get a hook-up... If someone cooks, I'll be there 4 sure!!!

Hello Everyone, I'm still trying to figure out how to do this and what everyone would most like to see or do at this type of get together.
In keeping with my desire to keep this relaxed and informal, I don't really want this to be a formal style casting clinic. Those get complicated pretty quickly when you have a variety of casting skill levels.
So, here's a proposal and I'd love hear some suggestions or other ideas.
I'm thinking maybe a half dozen stations for the first time. Each station would focus on a specific casting skill or technique, i.e. distance, accuracy, roll cast, reach cast, etc.
With groups like this, it is difficult to do individual lessons, you just don't have time to work with everyone. So, how about we do some casting demo / explanations at each station instead?
For example, if we steal the "Shoot the Moon" station from the Danish casting games, it is basically a distance casting challenge. So, to introduce this station we could spend 15 to 20 minutes talking about distance casting. What needs to change in your casting stroke as distance changes (stroke length, arc, timing, etc.) and demonstrate some practice drills that will help improve distance casting. Then we could move to another station and talk about casting accuracy or how to roll cast or reach cast or whatever. Hopefully, this type of demo would be beneficial to all skill levels.
Everyone can cast and practice the different stations at their own pace. The more experienced casters can help the less experienced casters as needed and desired.
Does this type of format sound like a good way to do something like this?
As for timing, I'm tied up for all Saturday's in October due to marching band competitions. So, I'm thinking early November assuming the weather will cooperate.
