We started www.AlleysTungsten.com for this reason. We were disgusted with the prices big companies were charging, please check us out. We sell our weights by the piece and are easily 50% to 75% of what the big guys charge. We currently carry 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1 & 1-1/2oz bullet weights. All are 95% Tungsten and have a soft plastic insert. We also carry Green Pumpkin, Black and Red Shad in 3/8 thru 1/2 and are expecting a shipment of 3/4, 1, 1-1/4 & 1-1/2 painted weights to arrive in the next 2-3 weeks. If you prefer weights without an insert similar to Tru-Tungsten's, we are working on that as well. We won't have them completed before this season is finished but definetly by the kick off of spring fishing. Thanks all, we couldn't do this without YOU! this is not taking a shot in any way, but wouldnt the plastic insert totally defeat the tungsten weight for feel?
seems like that insert which is touching the line the whole time would muffle the feel, than just bare metal.
any ideas? If not, those are good prices.

I don't consider it a shot at all. It is a logical question. The manufacturing processes used to make tungsten weights create small burrs inside the hole of the weight. Those burrs will destroy your line. There are only a couple of methods used to remove the burrs. The first, which is the cheapest and easiest is to process is the plastic insert. You do lose some feel with the insert, but the feel is still improved over lead. The second method is to paint over the burrs. This is TruTungsten's method. It is a little more costly because you have to make sure you get enough paint in the hole to cover up the burrs. The paint inside the hole also decreases the feel as well. We are working on a third method which involves polishing the inside of the hole. Assuming we can keep this cost effective, the feel will be an improvement over both methods since the line will touch the weight directly. The reason that tungsten is more sensitive than lead, steel, or other metals is due to a mechanical property called Young's modulus. Without giving an engineering sermon, you can think of it as stiffness of the product. The vibrations are transmitted through the tungsten and it doesn't lose much of the energy so you feel everything that the weight comes in contact with. Dwayne Davenport www.alleystungsten.com

While I have some of you guys talking about products, I need to know what you guys use/need in other parts of the country. What colored weights do you use, what sizes. Do you use drop shots, barrel weights? If so, what sizes. Thanks for you help, Dwayne

I'm no where near the level of these guys, but you seem to know your stuff. I used Tungsten for the first time on a guide trip this summer, and it was unreal. Even for a big time amateur like myself, the difference is very noticable. I don't have time to fish in the fall, but if you are still around in the spring Alley, I will place an order.

has anyone on here tried the Alleys? I would like to hear if anyone has tried them thats not selling them.
I just use tru tungsten right now. but it just cost me $15 for 4 wieghts.
I have tried the Bassproshops brand but the first one I used broke the line off on a cast the 2nd broke the line off setting the hook on a fish. So I wont be using anymore of the Bassproshops brand.

After my first use of tungsten several years ago the only lead I now use is split shot. The best protection for you tungsten investment is to retie more often. Fished last year as a co-angler at the Amistad with the Elite's and saw first hand why you do not see these guys break off very often. Not only do they respool fresh line every night on any rod they used that day they also retie all the time during the day especially with any setup that has the line running through a weight. Clark Rehms was throwing a co-angler rig(the Elite's term for C'rig) and a T'rig most of the time and retied atleast every hour.

I catch myself checking the line more often as well when I use tungsten. It makes me cringe when I break off. The biggest problem with the Basspro weights is that they cut the insert even with the top of the weight(I am assuming because it looks prettier). It is our experience that when you do that, you can create abrasion on the line. Our inserts extend beyond the top of the weight slightly. This allows it to flex with the line and reduces the likelihood of abrasion.
Don't know that you will find many folks that have used our product yet. Apparently whnigt is one of our customers. He was the one that posted our site initially. We only knew it was posted because someone else placed an order and said they saw it here. You can check out my feedback on Ebay. It is 100% positive. We also stand behind our product. If you get the product and you don't like it for whatever reason. Send it back to us we will refund your money. I do ask for feedback good and bad. I want to make the product better so all of us don't have to worry about breaking off a $2 weight and losing a fish in a tournament. Tight Lines, DD
