Hey LRS and Bolivar Rat,
These bait stores, do they sell live shrimp, finger mullet and mud minnows? I also use plastics, but these live baits have served me well in the past too. Thanks in advance!!!

Hey TX, they were throwing plastics in one set of lights but the other one was throwing popping corks with live shrimp. My cousin was down there a month ago and he threw TTK's in Glow and him and his girls all limited out. The time we went one guy limited out using live shad on the bottom. We caught a few on live shrimp and plastics but he did the best out of everybody. Fish the gulf side on the outgoing tide closer to the bridge the better...the further you out the stronger the current.

TxHookem I haven't been in the high island or winnie locations but bluewater sells live shrimp and croaker. Their number is 409-684-bait. Stingeray Marina sells live bait also and they are likewise open. I am heading up that way today(High Island) I will stop in and see what it has. Since I live in Crystal Beach I would never go to Winnie for bait.So up there I don't know. That would be a long ways to hall shrimp without proper equipment. Winnie is about 30 miles from rollover but if your coming what we call the back way from I 10 it's on your way.

LRS the bait shop in High Island is also called Ben's Trading Post. I never been to one in Winnie. The phone number I posted is a High Island number. Ben's in High Island, doesn't sell live bait. They have frozen shrimp, mullet, crabs, sting ray and squid. They are open Thursday thru Sunday Their number is 409-286-2231. They also sell table shrimp if your looking for some to eat. A lot of shark fishermen buy their bait there. Good Fishing all.
If you all ever need anything down here just ask.

I might be heading down there sunday afternoon after church. Might do some crabbing and fishing at the Anahuac National Wildlife refuge first and then make my down down there and throw live finger mullet and plastics on the outgoing tide.

Thanx for all the info about RollOver, us girls will be coming down Saturday to spend the day around there, mostly sitting on the beach, and going to Stingaree's for dinner. We look forward to coming back, we stayed in the Reynold's Cabins in May before the hurricane. Had a great time and hope to see some regulars we used to see there. See ya at the Pass...good luck fishing but most all have fun!!!

I was one of the regulars at Reynold's cabins. I thought they were raided, and shut down.

Had a great time at RollOver, saw and talked to several guys who were fishing. Most said it was on and off as to how much they were catching. There were several surf fishing around where we were on the beach. Stingaree's was crowded but as always food was very good. It was good to be back there. Hope to make another trip down soon! Maybe next time I might try the fishing...I love to freshwater fish, baiting the hook is ok, but just dont like taking the fish off!!!....~Angel~

please help me out, Ive seen shad mentioned a lot in this post and the other week we were catching TONS of threadfin shad in a brackish cove or creek I would say.
Are these the same type of shad and if they are, are they Threadfin? bc they looks EXACTLY like them!

It was a joke Angel. They know me personally, and I was hoorahing them. There is not a finer bunch of people anywhere. I practically lived in their cabins, and spent many a fine day on the fishing pier.

hey bfail,
funny thing, I dont know what a Threadfin is. Saltwater shad is the same shape as freshwater shad; however, the saltwater shad gorw much larger than the freshwater. I always try to catch me some with my casting net for live bait. hope this helps. Tight lines!!!
