If you know of someone who has the same unit you can use theirs to mock the buttons to push, just have their unit on beside yours and as you push a button on the working one, push the same button on yours, and save your waypoints before you get your new one.

Microp, that is a good idea. However, my unit actually won't even power up any more. I got it to turn on one time last night, but all it did was make a hissing noise (the sound of water and electricity mixing).

Just an update - I called my local BPS and talked to a customer service rep. They said I could come in and exchange the unit there. I'm going to give it a try this afternoon. If they'll exchange it, that would be fantastic! I'll keep y'all posted.

I know it's a little late but always keep a relatively fresh backup. It doesn't take long and will save you in the long run. I work in the IT field and the phrase save once save often comes to mind.... Good luck..

Again not a bash, but I think it is all of the HDS units, especially the 5 & 7 though.

Probably just some little corner not quite sealed right, they will make adjustments and fix it.

Isn't just the HDS series, I sent a 520c back twice due to same issue you could hear the water sloshing around inside, I even questioned if it needed to be mounted differently, ie not in console or bow to prevent this. got both replaced but just a pain in the .... to have that problem. I still love my Lowrances but when you are paying 1 and 2+ grand for a product you don't expect to have issues like this.

Ms. Colt has her stuff together I have no, zero, zilch, zipo confidence in Lowrance customer service unless I have spoken with Linda Colt.

this is not a bash either because I run Lowrance on my Cat but quality control has been a real issue since their manufacturing plant was moved to Mexico. There were a lots of bad LGC-2000's from Mexico(several hundred)

Congrats to BassPro for stepping up. I have always contactd Linda at Lowrance and everything has been resolved immediately. With her out, I have heard that it's best to call Lowrance as soon as their phone lines open and you can usually get through right away.

I hope this all works out for you. Let us know.

Lowrance's customer service for warranty work is really a pain to deal with but Ms. Colt is outstanding. I went thru all the proper channels but no response from emails or anythoing so I contacted her and she helped me out after 8 weeks without a unit. Once I contacted her I had a new unit within 5 days!! She Rocks!!

Well, I gotta' tip my hat to Bass Pro Shops. I took my HDS-10 in to my local BPS today after work. I explained the situation and presented my online receipt as well as my registration and warranty information from Lowrance. The manager looked at my unit and said, "Okay, let's swap it out."

What happens next is a little more interesting. I went to the electronics counter, pointed to the HDS-10 and said, "I need one of these for an exchange, please." The guy working the electronics counter kinda' smirked and asked, "What happened to yours?"

I told him it took on water during a rain storm and he just started laughing and shaking his head. I asked what was so funny and he said, "Trust me, you're not the first one that's been in here with that story."

hmmm

Kudos to BPS on this one. And my advice to any HDS users... if you haven't done so already, go online and register your product for the warranty. Having that little printout from Lowrance stating the warranty and registration dates with my information on it made this exchange very easy.

I'm crossing my fingers hoping this next unit is a winner. We'll see.
