J.B go to academy sports, they have a ranger net for 10 dollors, its a fine mesh net with a 6ft handle. alot of us have one and use them, I have one of these nets. It's great. I've had buffs to 17lbs in mine with tons of room left.

All you need is a bucket, some copper wire, a 50lb sack of potatoes, and a convenient tree branch. Lasso the fish's tail with copper wire and hang it over a tree branch. At the other end of the wire, tie a bucket. Keep adding potatoes from the 50lb bag into the bucket until the fish and the bucket balance at the same level either side of the branch. When you get home, weigh the remaining potatoes in the 50lb sack on the bathroom scale. Deduct this number from 50lbs, and deduct another pound to account for the bucket, and you'll know the weight of the fish you caught. The added bonus is that the bigger the fish, the easier it is to carry the sack home.
For bigger fish, use a 100lb sack of potatoes.
If the copper wire, a bucket and a 50 or 100 lb sack of potatoes is too much to carry in your two hands, you can use a laundry sack to put them in so you can carry then with only one hand. Laundry sacks are only a dollar or so at Wally World I hear... doesent sound fish frendly!!!

Maybe use some soft rope instead of the copper wire then. Some of that silky curtain trim that the missus uses perhaps. That should be a little more friendly. Oh, and if 50lb bags of spuds are too heavy, maybe use 5x10lb bags of nerf balls.

Buy a gravity meter, then measure the gravimetric effect of the fish at different distances from the meter.

Definitely liking the gravity meter option. What aisle are they on at Wal-Mart? Near the spuds?

Weigh sling, all the way!
Don't forget to zero the sling out first.

I say don't zero the sling and make sure its full of water when you weigh.... Helps you catch bigger fish.

I usually put a couple of housebricks in the bottom of my weigh sling to stop the wind blowing it around when I'm weighing a fish. Stops the scale jumping around so much.
Wrap the brinks in foam first, of course. And wet the foam before you put a fish in with them.
