I was wrong but I still don't they meant for casting. Ugly stik makes there own surf rods if you don't mind spinning rods.

well the C in BWC stands for casting ... oh i know that just signifies that it ain't a spinning rod ... but why on earth would you manufacture a 12 casting rod & not intend it it to used for casting? ... that makes far less sense than just saying it's a piece of junk

I just left a message with Ed to call me back. I'm going to order one of these reels. Then string it with the Team Catfish line. Happy Birthday to me!!!!

Make sure you're using stainless steel eyes braid.

A friend of mine fished with a guide, and he said they had a problem with the handles on these reels, and the bait clickers were hard to turn off & on. I talked to Ed and he said they did have problems with the handles and fixed it about a year ago and havn't had any problems since, he also said the bait clickers were made out of metal instead of plastic and may be harder to turn off & on than the plastic ones in the ABU'S, but they will last forever!!! I am going to buy a couple this weekend, and also 2 of his catfish rods, they are nice!!! Good Luck to ya, and I'm sorry you lost your friend

Funny how threads progress. OT was about potential punch bait, has progressed to Abu reel then to rods and now casting distance.
Really no point in this post, i just found it a little humorous.

I sold all my old ones when I got a boat but now I've got a new breakaway 13.5 footer on back order. just waiting for it to get here. little cheaper than the last ones I bought as this one was just $250 ... the others were $350 but that's the way of the world ... when stuff first comes out it's pretty expensive but then the price starts coming down after a while. $250 to $270 was what I paid for all those once piece lamiglas and fenwick rods I bought back in the day. I could cast those a long ways but they don't even compare to the breakaway rods ... with breakaway I can get 250 yds pretty easy with a small bait but I'm getting this new one for fishing out of my boat below dams so that I can cast up about 750 ft from the cable ... the cable at all these dams you can't go past in a boat so you have to stay below the cable and cast up towards the dam. been needing another surf rod since I sold all mine and now I got one coming. can't wait.

I tried looking up the daiwa eliminator but it's been discontinued.
