So I know fish shut down when the barometric pressure drops. That being said there have been storms in north texas daily for the last 3-4 days. Have the fish been shut down this whole time? Have been wanting to head up to the LLELA and fish. Never fished there. Does this weather pattern hold true for a tailrace situation as well? Haven't been able to fish since I got back from Red River, NM and really was wanting to head up there today sometime.
Help me understand this please. Also would I expect chocolate milk water at the LLELA?

I don't think it will be bad at llela. it is not the clearest waters anyway but probably isn't seeing all the run off that the lower end of the river sees
Bowfishing sucks

THe water at LLELA comes right from the dam. That water is typically clear.
John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

I was thinking about fishing there sometime this week. What flys should I use and were should I fish them. I want to catch some buffs, sandies, hybrids, gar, and other things for the multispecies contest.

Right, Scott, but....... the answer to the question is clousers, clousers, and then if you get tired if that, clousers.

You also might want to bring some clousers.
White clousers, especially.
Think shad, and injured shad...and chopped up shad.

LLELA is a practice hole for the Red River.
Go on, get over to Hwy 75, then head north at great speed.
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

Yeah...but the difference for me is I'm 10 minutes from Llela and 2 hours from the Red River lol.

I have never even heard of the place, but the guys that know are saying shad and injured shad as forage - I might suggest red and white clousers to go with your chart. and white, and maybe some black/grey/white ones. plenty of flash. Im sure a bugger'd work too, but maybe not as well as a clouser. Never know til you try.

Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area.
They have a herd of bison, the last remaining patch of native grass probably anywhere between the Rio Grande and the Red, and some good fishing as I understand it.
I guess if I go fish it any time soon I will bring some clousers.

I would probably skip out on LLELA under the current circumstances. You need a good release to get the hybrids stacked up in there. You can, though, find plenty of channel cats, gar, and buffalo there right now. Lots and lots of smallmouth buffalo.
My super secret LLELA buffalo slayer is a smallish olive green fly that resembles a wooly worm but with a bunch a flash that gives the body some shine. I throw it on fluoro leader with a couple BB splitshot. I'll sink that in their usual haunts - the deep pools, behind rocks, river bends, etc. - and it seems like I get hit on just about every other cast.
Also, for what its worth, I've seen gar big enough to put a saddle on down in the lower pools, toward the railroad tracks. I've yet to have any luck getting one on the line, though.
