LBJ Grasslands north of Decatur.
About 5 good sized lakes for tubing and yaking, One of em, ("Windmill") is "Fly Only". thank you S.N. That reminds me that there are a whole 'nother set of "Fedrable" Grasslands out east as well. Caddo (east on 380) and LBJ (Decatur) Grasslands

Are you talking weekday or just weekends?
John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

Are you talking weekday or just weekends? Either/Or/Both/Any/All Weekday mornings would be great for more local runs. Thinking of heading out somewhere over that weekend for more of a getaway, which is why Brazos below PK sounds cool, or the LBJ/Decatur jaunt, or something else. As with so many things in life, it all depends...

The brazos river either below PK or whitney. The is one lake in the Caddo Grasslands that is clear and has decent fishing. Lake Quitman, Caddo, Meridian State Park.
I think the red in fairfield would be really deep and hard to catch on a fly.
Broken bow. They have smallmouth above the lake.
South Lake in farmersville.

16 to 4 you have a couple days, talk a buddy into going with ya and your set, or if you have the extra dough get YaknYoda to guide you he told me he could accomadate fly fishing on a trip.
It's more than the catfish would do.

Don't waste you time at Windmill at LBJ Grasslands. It's anaerobic and about 8 feet low. Fairfield is low too, and like a short trip to the Gulf Coast - a complete micro climate. Hot water there raises air temperatures and humidity incredibly. Also, you'll need a boat to get anywhere on Fairfield (like 2mi. up to the dam) - in my ignorant opinion. Freshwater redfish are intriguing though. Did both this week.

Dale, Martin Creek isn't that great for fishing. I have been there a few times. Now if you want to catch a big catfish, and you have BAIT...you might do some good. It is an over fished lake, and usually the fish are small, if you catch them. Now if you have a boat, you might do better...but from shore, or the pier...lots of people come by and fish...so it isn't that great...but for a change it is alright to pop in there once in a while.

Fairfield is pretty tough on fly rods this time of year. The water is hot and the fish are deep. Even the bluegill bite is 8'+. A friend and I were completely skunked on fly rods out there about 2 weeks ago and I've been asking around since then.
+1 on lake Moss. It was a great little lake the last time I fished it. Of course, that was 15 years ago.
I would look at the Caddo Grasslands north of Bonham. Lake Fannin is the perfect size for fishing out of a tube or small boat. Lake Crockett is a great place for catching bass, although the filamentous algae was getting pretty bad the last time I was there, and Lake Coffee Mill has some nice fishing in the first cove by the campground.

Wow - A Fannin fan ! That place can be top water heaven and I've been a fan for 10 years, But alas..... that last trip, it got the swearing " I'm never coming back here again." statement
Gnats ! They were so bad, so thick, I ate 'em, snorted 'em, ground 'em into eye cream and packed them into my ears like micro q -tips.
Thank god (for me AND for every one here too) my butt was in the water as we were tubing fishing...
I longed for bear grease. We had no OFF but we fish like men, and dont leave till dark.
Fannin - Kinda a dink heaven but a real real pretty lake.
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.
