I hav been curious about this small lake ever since I saw on the parks and wildlife website that they had stocked it with sharelunker fingerlings. Well this past weekend I picked up my dad and we headed off to see if we could find anything. Sad to say, I barely even got anything on my fish finder.

We worked the shoreline on the west side with the vegetation from about 730am until about 830 am. We didn't get a single bite and I didn't see a single return on my fish finder.

This was the first time I'd taken my dad out on my boat since I got it, so afterwards we just drove around the lake talking and catching up on old times fishing possum kingdom together. I had the fishfinder running the whole time, just hoping to see at least something.

I got zero returns along the rip rap on the dam. we tooled around the main body of this small lake and saw nothing but an occasional arch on the sonar, and I do mean VERY occasional. I didn't even see normal returns you get in other lakes.

We didn't go much on the far northern tip of the lake really, but it leaves me wondering. If TWPD has stocked this lake starting in 2007 with sharelunker fingerlings, and imposed a very restrictive slot limit, where are all the fish? Now a week prior they had the drag boat races, but I would figure a week of quiet would have let the fish get back into a more normal state, but I didn't see a single thing.

It was very disappointing, I had high hopes for it because the fishing pressure on it is pretty low when you compare it to other larger impoundments.

Has anyone ever gone out there just to check it out and had any luck?

It used to be a great little lake, a hidden gem. Once they built houses around it, the grass died off and the lake became tougher to fish. Combine that with lots of bank fishing folks that kept everything they caught- and its a recipe for disaster.

I would bet there are still fish in the lake, you would just have to find brushpiles or deep structure. It took me a few times of being out there to figure out the areas to key in on. I mainly fished the roadbed, some brushpiles, and the little creek on the northeast end of the lake. Flipping white beavers into the shoreline reeds and weeds usually worked well for me.

Yeah bank fishers can be hard on it. Nothing against bank fishing at all, but being in the heart of the city, naturally your going to get people who don't even begin to grasp the concept of catch and release. I was hoping for the "hidden gem" since it is less then 10 minutes from me.

It can be, still. Put you a few brushpiles out there- they dont have t be huge- just 2-3 trees on each pile. theres a LOT of crappie in the lake once you figure them out.

never had much luck out there from the bank. but then again there is very little cover/structure, except a couple of those docks.

i've heard TPWD put all about 34 brush piles throughout the lake, but i have no idea where they are because my graph ain't that good.

at least right now, i'd be fishing deep out there.

well nick I idled around the deep areas of the lake, from midway to the dam for probably a good 30 - 45 minutes and didn't see much in cover, or anything in the water. I've got a Lowrance LMC-330 on my console fish finder. Maybe I didn't explore enough. As it's the first time I've been on the lake in a boat, I didn't get too adventerous in heading up some areas with my outboard running.

haha i actually thought about that one!! I was talking with a friend last night about doing it at MC and Grapevine We've en hitting Grapevine every Wednesday morning when we get off work. I know the bite is slow right now but we haven't got much more then little guys who don't know any better

there is a roadbed that goes beside the ramp on the west side of the lake- follow that roadbed and fish about 14-20' deep. there used to be a little brush on it. the point up at the north end of the lake had brush and a tank dam on the west side of the point. the east side of the lake by the school had steep banks, and usually held a good population of bass. I used to parallel the dam with crankbaits and work all the way down it for a few bass. there should be quite a few brushpiles out there- just takes time to find them. 15-17' of water is where i would look- near points.

its a great lake to practive the dropshot on. i used to get on the roadbed and learn/practice the dropshot technique.

Last time i went there was some fallen timber on the north side. We caught a few decent bass but the bite was tough.

i go out there regularly, crankin the riprap ill catch some quality fish, but there usually suspended..this weekend i through a shaky head up into the thick stalks of the vegetation and had a good day. also caught 2 6+ pound catfish on crankbait (who wouldve thunk)

I've fished MC for a while and it�s off and on....I have a bass buster so I normally use the north-west ramp and hit the cove on that side of the lake. Top water in the early am and early evening have always worked for me. As well as the black/chart bass grubs have worked as well. I also had a buddy a while back pull out some lunkers over on the east side where the school parking lot is. He was flipping a lizard in some lily pads and had some luck. This lake is known for its Sandies really.

But I have to agree, there are tons of people that bank fish this lake, without a license and keep everything they catch. They have absolutely no clue or desire on doing things the right way and I strongly feel that is why the fishing has declined here. I wont even mentioned all the garbage that gets left behind....This really bugs me because this little lake is where I caught my first bass and got started. It�s also where my uncle and I have shared some fun memories and it sucks to see others that don�t care and have total disregard for this lake. I guarantee you that if the warden showed up there, they�d make enough money in fines to restock this lake and then some.
Thank God I'm covered by the blood because I'd be using some different words right now....

That lake used to be lunker city back in the 90's

remember when the grass covered 1/4 of the lake, and was 20' in some places.. goooood times!
