It's just too dang hot for me to fish during the day right now. These triple digit temps are forcing me to go night fishing.
In your opinion, what are some "must have" items when going night fishing for crappie, Whites and Catfish....IE : Certain types of lights...underwater and or in boat, etc.
Thanks!!

For me and night fishing I like to use the little clip on adapters for the glow lights that fit on the end of the fishing pole. I use this as I usually turn off all lights while I am night fishing. This way i can still see what my pole is doing. Also helps keep the bugs away when you have no light on. But if I am going to be away from the poles for a few minutes,I will use the clickers or set the spinning reels so no fish can pull them into the lake. I am sure everyone has something different when they go and do there night fishing. This is just one thing that I like to use.

I must have: a good hat light, and hand held mag-light, and a q-beam.

Ok, I've got a Q-Beam Spot Light, I've got the LED Cap Lights. As far as attracting the bait fish using on water or in water lights....are there any suggestions?? I've seen so many types of lights for the water....but which ones are good and which ones suck!! ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) Is it worth the $$$ to buy the high dollar submersible green lights?? I noticed some of the nicer looking ones are up there from $150-$250?

Get a head lamp with a red setting. The red doesn't ruin your night vision and doesn't attract as many bugs.
I use the 18" green lights from academy and they work fine. Make sure that you take some weight with you so you can actually sink the lights down in the water. Out of the box they actually float and you will need to clip on quite a bit of weight onto the bottom of the light to make it sink down. I actually keep a half a brick with a piece of string wrapped around it to sink the lights.
Also, get yourself a little bait net. Sometimes the bait swarms around the lights on the surface and you can just reach down and scoop them up.

I also condense my terminal tackle into a small fanny pack, that way i know exactly where my most needed items such as hooks, weights, pliers and knife will be when i need them. This way i am not stumbling around looking for something that would be easliy seen during daylight hours.

I don't use the submerible green lights. I love the floating headlights. A car headlight mounted in styrofoam. A deep cycle battewry can keep 2 of them going all night.
They're making l.e.d. Ones now. Never used them.

When you say Headlamp, are talking about the ones that have the strap that fit on your head....or like a car headlamp?? The ones that strap to your head or clip to your hat. You will find that you don't need to keep it on all the time. You only need it when tying line. Once you get out and your eyes adjust the green glow from the lights in the water is more than enough to see with. If you use a white light on your head it will screw up your night vision for several minutes. The red doesn't effect it nearly as much.

the floating lights from walmart and academy will do find attracting bait fish.. wear a hat and get yourself a light that goes on the bill also from walmart for like $10, they work great and easy to turn on/off to keep the bugs at bay.
