I was 3, and caught a small channel cat at a park in Lubbock. My Dad let me take it home and I kept it alive in a bucket for over 2 days.

A bluegill caught on a worm with my Dad on Memorial Lake in Norwalk Ohio. Took it home to show my Mom and then took it back to the lake to let it go. I was about 5 years old.

a bluegill at Unc's Camp on Devils Lake. The place was covered by 50 feet of water when Amistad filled. It was a wonderful place- down a step road to a flat area maybe 100 ft wide and 300 yds long, lots of big cottonwood trees. Anybody remember it?

I was 4 and with my uncle. Caught a bluegill on a cane pole in his farm pond. It is burned in my memory because it flopped around in some high grass and when I picked it up it was the tail of a big ole snake and scared the poo out of me.

I was in diapers on our dock at Toledo Bend. Casting a jitterbug with a zebco. I knew how to throw that zebco like a champ! I was too young to get in the boat with the big boys just yet. Well according to my mom anyway! So, my dad would cast a few times with me on the dock in the morning before they left our dock. Well one of those mornings I caught a fish! It was a one pound bass!
I WAS HOOKED FROM THAT DAY ON!!! and yes I went with dad after that cause mom could not handle the talking and me bugging her anymore!!
I got a picture of me in my diapers holding the bass with my dad. My dad had it mounted and it hung on my bedroom wall for years. I still have the fish, but its in a coffee table mount set-up now! We had it re-done to be in there with a mounted 11 pound monster from a trip my dad took me on to Mexico when I graduated from high school... Its a cool mount that I got made for my dad for fathers day a few years back.
oh the memories!
Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit!! It is when pirates count their booty that they become mere thieves. ARRRRRR....

Catfish, small pond in a little community called Corbet Texas, bobber, night crawler amd when I swung the fish up out off the water the dorsal spine stuck in my shin and broke off, I freaked out, thought I was gonna die must have been five maybe six, been hooked every since.

First water critter I ever caught was with a cane pole, and a bobber, using a night crawler, it was a crawdad, scared me to death. Later same day I caught a small catfish with the same set-up. Scared me almost as bad as the crawdad. Nasty old wiskers and them ugly old lips moving. Both of them where in Mud Creek, in Abilene, Kansas behind my grandmother's house. Have no idea how old I was, probably 2nd grade.
Learned after awhile them crawdad tails made good bait.

mine was a 27 inch Pike at the age of five. I was living in South Dakota at the time. We went camping and my step dad set out a pole then took a nap. Well so he says it was just him and my mom in the tent . My step dad was mean so I did not wake him up. The pole bent over double I grabbed it and yanked. It broke the pole and thought I lost it. Was not worried about the fish was worried about the pole and my step dad kicking my arse. My brother came to help me and we were trying to put the pole back together when my brother said the fish was still on it he felt it. So we both pulled it in by hand. So I did not catch it by myself my older brother helped me. Ended up being a 20 something inch Pike. Step dad did not kick my arse that time LOL was actually proud I guess.

Bream! Pouring down rain, sitting in a half-sunk docked rowboat on the Catawaba River in North Carolina with my Dad when I was 6 years old. Cane pole, worms and cork stoppers out of medicine bottles.
It was 1948. I have never attained the same thrill since that day. Close, but not quite.

Can't say that I remember my first fish - I was about 2-1/2 yrs old ... but there's a neat picture of it at my folks place. I'll have to scan it & post here sometime soon.
It was a bocaccio (aka rockfish, salmon grouper) that was about as long as I was tall! All sorts of neat things that one could catch in the Seattle bay system in those days ...
