What are your thoughts on relocating fish to small pockets of water for the purpose of catching them again during tournaments. I think this is morally wrong and should be written into the rules.

From the studies I've read bass will relocate back to where they are from/caught from. Often times traveling without stopping.

I have heard this happening before where they stock them in to small pools of water that the fish can not get out of and then returning to catch them on tournament days. This is dead wrong and should be a written rule.

I would like to see the reports you read because I have heard and read the opposite. For example I pulled this one up without working hard that said the opposite. http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fishing/...udy_2007-08.pdf

Yankee bass are different! LOL! J/K!
I don't save stuff I read, but it's been discussed on here before. If I remember correctly the study was done on Sam Rayburn.
I even remember seeing BASS tracking bass after a weigh in.
I'm sure you can search the TFF and find some of the old post.

Both. Unethical because its cheating and Illegal because its fraud.
One word tells me all I need to know in regards to fish quickly returning to where they were originally caught...retreads.

The Bass_Bustin_Texan is right. Bass do have a home base and when caught in one spot and released in another they eventually return to their home base. Many studies have been done on several Texas lakes that showed this patern.

I broke away from work long enough to find the story/study I was talking about. Here is the famous Hope story! http://www.flwoutdoors.com/article.cfm?id=143706Enjoy!

I don't think that "loading up" thing will work to any great extent, anyway. A big majority of the bass will pack up and go where ever they want right after they're released. Otherwise, every tournament would be won by fishing next to the boat ramp where all of the previous tournament bass were released.
But...I also think that anyone who would even attempt something like that should get the old heave ho just for thinking they could twist the rules around. If they'll try that, what else might they be planning?

I have been told it is illegall to relocate bass to different bodies of water so if you catch a fish in the lake and run it up the river 2 s pool it can't get out of is it leaving that body of water? It's a gray area in my mind... idk it's definatly cheating but I'd have 2 ask a game warden about illegal.

If it is not against the rules, who cares. They still have to catch the fish. Like mentioned if it were that easy, everybody would be winning tournaments at the boat ramp.

Bass have a homing extinct just like other animals. Not to say for varies reasons they will not linger in the release area for a period of time.A dog can be taken miles away from home and will find its way back.Bass are territorial and unless some damage to their brain has occurred i.e. held out of water too long, they will find their way back to home waters.Top relocate bass to a small area for the purpose of catching them in a tournament, one would have to construct some sort of barrier.

Its funny this topic is brought up because I was just talking about it the other day. My thoughts are that it is practically cheating and definately unethical. The only reason its not considered cheating is because its not in the rules. Well guess what, I have just rewrote my rules for the tuesday night tournaments on Eagle Mountain and all the tournaments that I do organize. Anyone that fishes tonight will sign a new set of rules. If I catch someone I will DISQUALIFY with no questions asked and they will not be welcomed back to fish anything I organize. Its hard enough to go out there and catch a quality bag of fish and do well, especially when someone is doing shady [censored] like this

You might as well add baiting holes to your rules also.
