If texas is going to break the record, I believe that some attitudes are going to have to change. I have read many many many post on here about catch and release or cpr. I talked with an old gentleman that knows more than I ever will about fishing and he said that catch and release was to problem not only with not catching bigger fish, but catching fish in general. He believed that if people kept there daily limits of fish that there would be more food for the other fish and create bigger fish. I believe that we should release fish over 5 lbs to grow, but we need to start taking home a few every trip. Otherwise we can forget about any records being broken in our lifetime in Texas. Also I fish tournaments and believe that we all can take better care of the fish. If tournament put stronger penalties on dead fish, then maybe we would work harder to keep them alive. Just my 2 cents.
Let the debate begin!!!

That is the point. Bass in Japan are consider a bad fish. They kill as many as they can. So if they are not practicing catch and release and they do not have the trout stocking like california then how can they grow them that big. I believe that there are not enough bass eaters in Texas. I talked to a fish biologist about pond management and he said I needed to remove a ton of fish to start growing bigger fish. The hunting lease I am on said that we need to cull more deer and let the bigger deer with good genes walk. If this produces bigger fish in ponds and bigger deer on the lease, then why would it not aplly to lakes?

With the slot coming off of RayBob, we just might have a lake headed in the right direction, as far as culling some fish out of there to make the others have more food resources.

Ray Rob is gonna explode after September 1st. Im not sure if it is going to be for the better or worse. That lake does have some toads in it.

It will throw out some good bass, but look how few Share A Lunkers have came out of this lake. I say Roberts will be a good lake, but no where close to Fork for big fish

you know it makes sense to keep some big ones around and make sure they have pleanty of forage. however, if you keep too many smaller fish then lake fork wouldnt be what it is. perhaps you could take a smaller lake in texas and make it purely catch and release on the bigger fish. keeping all of the smaller fish. this would obviously mean that a lake will not be for pleasure fishing, but strictly a "record" lake. strict diet of trout/tilapia etc...but then again, if you kept a bass in a small watering hole making sure it was fed and warm and tuck it in at night, i think that would take something away from catching that record.

That was the point of the "Slot Limit" - to create trophy fish. The problem is that no one wants to keep little fish.
