I have only been on fork a few times and I'm not that comfortable with running the lake yet so sometimes I will sit out by one of the boat lanes waiting for someone to come flying by and jump in behind them and follow untill I see a cove or point i thnk looks good. I never follow them to thier fishing hole.
Now if someone follows me I feel sorry for them.

Marc, years ago we were sinking christmas trees in Fork, we would normally do this every year, but that year we had a lot donate all the trees they did not sell, we had close to 300 trees. Well we would leave Pope's with about 3-5 bass boats that would look like floating Duck Blinds because of the trees. When we noticed that some of the local crappie fisherman were following us out and watching where we dumped the trees, this was way before GPS or even Loran units were out so we just used the depthfinders to find the spots. That afternoon we decided that we would countinue to sink them at night so the crappie fisherman could not follow us, so we sat around and drank beer and ate and waited looking back now that was a pretty stupid thing to do, someone could have gotten hurt, or worse but at the time it was the thing to do. The plan worked to perfection, we sank the rest of the trees that night with nobody following us.
To this day there are 15-18 boat loads of trees somewhere on Lake Fork that never got fished, can't remember where we put them
Well at least the crappie fisherman don't know where they are either

Big 1 Bass again I find my own fish by spending lots of time on the water. I do talk with my guide buddies and we share info and some public holes. Now as for as Fork I grew up in this bottom and spent many hours on it before and as it was filling and there is very few holes here that I have not fished but there are some and I see guides or fisherman catching fish there, and again it is not my spot so I do not go there. Really makes you feel good when you do not have to cheat to catch fish.Ken A I have done just what you are talking about to distract them and mis lead them. This guy must have waited till I got set up and started fishing then came to me just a few min after seeing at the ramp. Like someone said he could have watched from a distance and came back later but nope! Just another day in the life of a Lake Fork Guide ! It is not the first time or the last time this will happen. I just needed to vent and next time it will be at the fisherman that ruins my day.

Happy 4 th to everyone !

I guess it would be like going to your best deer stand and finding someone sitting in it ! Now we are on land and I have a weapon !

Me and a friend of mine have had the same problem on Rayburn this year I have seen nothing like it. We fish out of separate boats and usually share information. But this year we have had a couple of boats pull up like they want to talk get close to you hit WPT twice and floor it to leave. The sad part is I have not been able to get on good fish this year and have been spending countless hours driving in circles in areas looking for new stuff and it just pi$$es me off that they would drive around looking for other peoples holes. I do not know who they are but I hop the fish never swim across those holes while they are there. One is a yellow Triton TR21 and the other is a Blue and white Skeeter. I don't know the guys and may never see them again but to me if you cannot find your own fish you need to find another hobby.

I like the idea on one of the earlier posts. Snap a picture and post it on here. I dont know that it would solve anything, but there's so many people on this forum, someone might see them again, or even know the nimrod.

Been happening on Rayburn we have a spot up north we fished it every tournament last year we never saw a boat there in three years in tour or practice. This year we have seen three different boats there in the past two months. Guys use to come by us all the time last year and idle by, funny thing is its no good this year, of course that might be becasue of the pressure.

When I use to guide for white bass on Livingston as a kid I could see real good and could see them schooling a mile away. Guys use to follow me when I would pick up and leave cause they knew I was going to schooling fish. Finally I would just pick up haul a@@ and stop in the middle of the lake and eat a sandwich. It was funny to watch those guys pull up right next to me and throw around me in 50 foot of water. It worked for a long time.

Several times when I put out a marker on some deep water humps on Ivie, I will have people come by and drive right over my marker as they hit their GPS. Two of them this year have even tangled my bouy marker up in their prop!!! We had two boats following us on Amistad one day prefishing for the Stren. I had a friend along side me in his boat so I could show him a spot holding a lot of fish. When we rounded a corner and was temporarily out of sight, I jumped in my buddy's boat and my wife took off the opposite direction to a predetermined point. We went to the good spot and he marked it on his GPS. My wife said the other two boats followed her over the point and stopped and just looked at her with a look of "where did he go?". We came over and got back in my boat with them sitting out there watching me that dumb look on their face. smile smile smile It was priceless.

take a photo of the guy in his boat and post the picture on the internet...he will soon stop...

There is no reason to get angry and lose your cool on the water. Stupid people buy boats all of the time. Fork seems to attract alot of these folks. Just pull up the trolling motor and move on.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a guide nor am I a tournament fisherman but I find it absolutely hilarious that other people think they own a spot on the lake. I'm not saying it is ok to follow someone around and sit right on top of them but let's be honest here. There are too many boats on that water not to fish where others have fished before you.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with fishing near(by near I mean within eyesight and not right on top of them) someone and then moving in on their hole when they leave. You left. It isn't yours. Whether you found it or not is irrelevant in my opinion.

I'm sure I'll get blasted but I fish for fun and believe that everyone has just as much right to fish a spot as anyone else.

I know you feel that way but its not that simple. He's a guide thats what he does for a living thats how he pays his bills, provides for his family, spent countless hours on the water to do what he does best only to have a select few come and mess up a hole that they would of never found. Then those same types go and tell everyone next thing you know he's got 25 people fishing a spot that maybe he and a select few knew about which makes it tougher on him to make a living. Now how would you like it if some guy took potenial money from you or somehow put you out of business, but they were just "doing it for fun" that makes it worse. Maybe this is a little overboard to some of ya'll but to him its his life. I should know I fish for a living as well.
