I have always thought that these two boats looked identical. Are they made by the same manufacturer? Is Cobra even around anymore?

I am pretty sure Cobra was designed after Champion! I think John Story was the one who designed both! I think Legend is just like both of them!

Cobra is not around anymore.
Someone tried to bring them back, but I guess it didn't work out. I know that he made at least one new Cobra.
I have an '01 Cobra and I love it. They are/were great boats.

"The original Legend LE series in 2004 was a knockoff of the Hawk hull and was designed with input from John Storie. The Alpha series Legends are engineered and designed completely by Legend boats. Legend has never been linked with Cobra in any way except the original assistance from Storie."
This is a direct quote from Duane Hanshew, the CEO of Legend boats

I've ridden in a Cobra 216 (if I recall correctly) and it rides well. Handles the rough water well and can fly with no chine walk. I haven't gotten a chance to ride in an Alpha yet. Anaconda Boats is bringing the Cobra line back. The rep in Texas is Bryan with texashawgs.com (just an fyi)or www.anacondaboats.com

Here is some interesting reading on the Cobra history. If nothing else, it will confuse you. Pat Goff whould chime in here and tell the story like it really happened. http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=134322&page=1

Don't let a good story get in the way of facts...
Cobra/viper/hawk was started by John Storie, the original owner of champion. He was under a very specific non-compete with champion that prevented him from building a deep V wedge designed hull, so he didn't.
What he and Bruce Benton did do, was splash a ranger 482, add turning chines, and lifting strakes, and used that as their base for the original viper hull, which is now of course the legend.
It isn't a champ, or ever was.

But.....they are only taking orders from customers. They are not being "mass produced".
Maybe they will still be doing this when I am in the market for a new boat. I would love a new Cobra!

Pat's information is mostly right by basis. The details in that old link are not accurate in the chemical issues, though somewhat accurate in that issues were existing. He has the historical perspective of the hulls right and we see little difference existing.

If you would love a new Cobra...you ought to get into a Bass Cat...I had two Cobras before I got my 08 Cougar...there is no comparrison as to the ride in rough water..not even close.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Really happy with my Cobra. I have noticed that the legends sit in the water just like a Cobra.
