I was passing through the middle of beautiful little Kerrville TX yesterday morning and couldnt help but notcie that the Guadalupe river is dammed up into a decent sized lake, right smack in the middle of town. Pretty good looking water too....anyone know if the fishing is any good there? There was a small boat ramp an dock too. Can you launch a fiberglass boat in there?
Any insight is really appreciated. Would love it if I could find some good water close to home.

Man fish it in a float tub. I have a deer lease in comfort right down the road and I have fished it a few times pretty good just use small gear but you will catch a big one every now and then but most are 1 to 3 pounds alot of fun.

We fished it earlier this month with my son (3) in the town fishing derby (great showing) we caught tons on bluegil and saw some smaller bass. I think 1 catfish and a few smaller bass were caught. The water looks very good and I saw people tubing/kayaking on it

There were a couple guys fishing it in aluminum boats, but I didnt see anything larger than that. The float tube sounds fun, but I have to admit, I like it in my Triton most of all.

Dude? Triton? Its like 10 acres!!!
Float tube and a fly rod!
Love that part of the river. Only fished it about half a dozen times but always caught fish. Mainly 1-3 lbers. Biggest I've caught in there was 5.2.
Huge bluegill on top water poppers on fly rod are awesome.

I would be float tubing that place. Lots of snakes this time of year. If I had a choice I would use a johnboat. I know that they flip flopped on allowing boats with as motors on that part of the river several times so you may want to check ahead. The kerville bass club (or some local club) was rumored to have released all the good fish that were caught at their tournaments in that part of the river.

i have some family friends that have a cabin on the river over by mo-ranch. when we go down there i fish it from a yak with the fly-rod first and then do clean up with a spinning rod and a small worm. Fishing is great, but mostly small fish, but who cares its freakin bueatiful

Oh yeah, spent a ton of time at Mo Ranch- beautiful countryside. My parents grew up in Kerrville and matter of fact, I was just there on Saturday to visit my dad for father's day weekend.
Fishing the Guadalupe River can be fun some days and very frustrating others. Some areas of the river has very nice water and some look good on top, but have trash on the bottom. For me, the closer you get to Mo Ranch and all the scout camps, the better quality of water in general, and, the fishing seems to be better. There are really only a handful of large fish (I've landed a four pound bass), but when you're out in that part of the hill country, enjoying the scenery, when you get what feels like the byte of a lifetime, you reel it in, only to find a four inch long perch on the hook, you still smile and go on enjoying your day, for nothing is hurried on that river.
However, let it be know- WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES!!!

The fishing is great in kerrville if you launch at the lake house resturant you can only use your trolling moter but have some stout line there have been several 9#'s and 10#'s caught there. my pb there is 8.53# . on down river behind the American Ligion Hall is Flat rock it too is good fishing Just not the big fish like UGRA has but you can run your big motor there just be very carful there are some huge stumps under the surface in the middle .If you run your big motor stay on the south shore in the river channel and you will be fine ,the north side is very shallow anbout 1//2 mile from the boat ramp.

I'm not sure if it's still called Kerville Shriner State Park, but when it was I fished that area with a small "bass buster" boat with a trolling motor. Right at the state park dock I caught a largemouth that was at least 7 pounds....conservatively. I had only been fishing 10 minutes, so I was excited for the rest of the day. Never had another bite. Did see a descent sized bass boat...maybe 18 or 19 feet. That was in October about 5 and a half years ago.
