I deep crank alot, and I generally like an old Lews or an old Abu in 3.8:1. I recently bought one of the new 4.7:1 Fritts cranking reels from BPS. I have been impressed by the reel.

One of the requirements I have for a deep cranking reel is that it has a little slack in the handle--no instant anti-reverse. It is difficult to find a newer model reel that has this slack. The 4.7:1 Fritts reel was built to have a little slack; the two faster models of the Fritts reel are instant anti-reverse.

Also the Fritts reel will throw a bait out of sight.

I am generally not impressed with the BPS logoed rods and reels. In the case of this particular reel, I think you can buy with confidence.

But don't overlook those old Abus or Lews--if you can find them.
