If you tie the Palomar knot correctly it will not break. Here is the correct way to do it. http://heartlandtackleservice.com/palomar.stmThe double loop on the eyelet of the bait must be side by side and NOT crossed. If they are crossed it will break even if it is tied like the diagram showed. There has been one on Knot Wars that I am going to try also. It is supposed to be strong. It is called the Fish N Fool knot. Basically it is a double loop through the eyelet and then a uni knot. Another quick and easy knot.

EZ, Guess we are all 'Fishin' Fools... The twice thru the eye uni, has been around for years. Last year on the knot wars, it was called the 'eye crosser'. Twice thru the eye and a uni with two turns thru the loop. This year, seems a genius has learned that four turns thru the loop makes it stronger. I learned it years ago from an Arkie named Ricky Green, and have used it with all mono/flouro apps with no problem. I don't contend it is better than a palomar, just that being old and near blind, I feel I can tie it better. Thank goodness we have a name for it now. If I send in one with five turns, will the gurus at Berkley call it the 'Old Fishin' Fool'...........?

I may have been tying the palomar wrong because I broke them off too much. I now simply use a double improved clinch and never a problem.
Yep after looking at the pics I was not tying it right.

I have used a knot similar to the SD Jam Knot I can list a thread where I put pics of tying it. To tie the San Diego, If you look at the 4th picture in my thread, put the doubled line through the loop next to the hook eyelet before you put it through the loop shown in pic 5. I have never felt that step was necessary and the know ties easier my way but thats what the SDJK is. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...rue#Post1030531

Palomar knot. Watched the knot contest and it held up best with fluorocarbon. Just be careful when you tighten it. Moisten it.
