Both Brown coves have plenty of tree stumps that will be below the surface when and if lake ever comes back up. So get some marks on them now.

sometimes i wonder..will the big bluegills ever get fished out of that lake?.......ever?...i hope they dont....i want a cooler too! As long as the lake has those numbers of Tilapia, it should have big BG. Big BG eat a lot of small Tilapia fry...verified by stomach samples. Very nice pictures...and agree that the first one looks to be a native BG, a very nice one.

Have to wonder if a small streamer – say, a zonker – might work there if the fish are keying on tilapia fry. On the cricket side, maybe a #8 black bugger, weighted or sunk with a sink tip? Or maybe there's so much food in Fairfield, the offering has to smell like meat?

Fished Fairfield last Thursday, very windy. Only managed 10 big bluegill but we made up for it on the redfish. Boated 50 reds with the largest going 30.5 inches, 10 lbs 13 ounces...

I'm a rookie on Fairfield, but learning fast. Last week I tried some nymphs for BG with a sink tip...didn't get a bite. Want to try some black beadhead buggers and also tie up some "Tilapia" clousers that work well for me in ponds. You've got some good suggestions also. Funny but in my limited trips there so far, no one seems to fly fish for them...so perhaps, your theory on abundance of food has merit. I'm going to try again next week...after playing with the reds again.

Congratulations to the thread originator on your haul. Those fish are kind of unreal. Funny but in my limited trips there so far, no one seems to fly fish for them...so perhaps, your theory on abundance of food has merit. I'm going to try again next week... Well, the lake is a bit distant from me, but I've tried fly fishing there, boatless, on two occasions with little luck. The idea of bluegills – any variety – that won't gobble flies is kind of hard to accept. What size tilapia streamers make the most sense? Two inch, more or less? Best of luck in the quest.

I'm thinking (haven't tried it yet) that a medium sized Bumblebee popping bug, early in the AM, on a flyrod, just might turn the trick down there. It is a plan of mine to check this out soon. Best bet might be in the lilypad section of the lake or around some of the reeds that are still in the water, if there are any.
