There is definately deer out there, Seen several in the Flowermound area, used to see some in Lewisville before it became over populated.
And have killed some trophy bucks out by the speedway. deer you wouldnt believe would be there.
i did some looking into it and found a story Game Wardens deploy decoy swimming deer in hopes of busting wacky tabacky fishermen.

If you land a deer, in the lake, while fishing, is that considered a GAME FISH???

Being a local scuba diver and frequently diving the area lakes, I can tell you that deer frequently swim underwater. Its not that uncommon to swim past one while submerged.
Once in Texoma, in fact, I saw a whole group of them (40 or 50 deer) swimming down around 70 feet deep. They were crossing the lake. At that depth, they don't "doggie paddle" but instead lay their limbs back and swim more like a seal. They're quite fast swimming like that, actually. I was even able to grab the antlers of a big buck and hitch a ride for about a hundered or so yards. It was almost magical.
You know, at any given time on any of the big lakes around here, there are probably 100-200 deer underwater, just swimming, at any given moment.

It does sound magical. This thread keeps getting better and better. Next time I hit a stump with the wife in the boat I am going to swing the boat around real fast and look for a dead deer. I will explain all of this to her then. On a side note........You can't pick up a road kill deer. If you kill one that is underwater with your boat, it is a lake/water kill deer. Can you harvest it? I checked TPWD and they make no mention of this scenario. I think I am going to call the local GW and ask.

I checked TPWD and they make no mention of this scenario. A few good passes with the prop should field dress them with minimal effort.
