I bought the 8ft. crappie rod PAT801CN a couple weeks ago and I have noticed this happening...about 2 feet of line (6#) about a rod's length above the jig becomes very curley after landing a few fish. I have not had this happen with any other rod. It is as if the line has been stretched and dragged across a sharp surface. The line is not damaged, just has become curly. I have cut off above it several times and it comes back after landing a few. Inspection of the tip eye shows nothing unusual and it is thru the eye and not the frame that holds the eye. Has anyone else had this problem? Any explanation or cure?
Other than this...I really like the rod. Fantastic shooter with excellent synsitivity.

When you say it's a fantastic shooter... what are you shooting? I use mine to vertically jig and I really never had an issue with my rod.

I had the same problem with my rod(10ft.). Once I finally got my rod in, it did the same thing as yours. Look real close at the guides. Mine had a nick on it from the mfg. I rolled the guide to where the nick was at the top of the eye and glued it in place. Hanen't had any trouble since. I typically would have sent the rod back, but didn't feel like dealing with it. Other than that I really like the rod.

You shoot docks with an 8' rod?

You can shoot docks with any rod length if you try hard enough. grin

Run a cotton ball or piece of cotton through the eyelets. If there are any snags in it, the cotton will catch on them.

Good point Jeff......and it works good! I have, 10-10' rods and 5-8' rods and haven't had a lick of trouble with any of them other than my own fault!!!

I have several ProAnglers and no trouble like you experienced. I do use the cotton test on guides when I buy a new rod and have had no bad spots yet. Just got a new shooter in the mail today, anxious to try it out.

Thanks for the help guys (and gal). I will try the cotton ball trick and see if there is a snag in the eye.
I don't shoot docks as there are almost no docks on Sam Rayburn. I shoot the jig out along the bridge pilings then count down and slow roll it back. Shooting works better than casting in windy conditions and I am always shooting upwind. Just thinking about it, the curling of the line makes sense as it is the section of the line that is being pulled taught across the tip eye when drawing back for the shot. If that tight line is pulled across a snag, it would surly put a curl in the line. I think the guides on the rod are rolled stainless steel and probably have an edge where the ends of the SS come together. That is what probably must be put to the top to avoid the line. I will check it out when I get to the lake tomorrow. Thanks again to all who replied.

I checked all the guides with a Z-Tip and no snags at all. I can't see any imperfections in the tio-top at all and it is still curlifying a 1 foot section of line that is about 4 feet up from the jig. So...round 2....what is causing this? How do I fix it? This may be my first, last and only ProAngleer rod if no cure is found!

I'm sure this probably isn't it, but what kind of bait are you tying on?

Also, are you casting or fishing vertically - how are you using the bait?

And what kind of cover or structure are you fishing?

I also noticed you haven't said which brand of line or how old the line is you're useing just that it's 6lb. This may have a lot to do with it.

Wally Marshall Hi-vis line that is new. It does not do this on a Wally Marshall 8' rod with the same line.

CrappieBuster had this same thing happen to his rod, two weeks ago when we were prefishing Lake Fork. He thought it was the line, but come to find out it was the eye at the end of the rod. He replaced it and no more problem. I don't know what kind of rod it was, but I think it was a Wally Marshall.
I think this happens when we wind the jig up too far into the eye. Or use the rod to get the jig unhung down in the water. Just my 2 cents worth, spend it wisely. thumb
