I fished the big pond at Valley Creek Park this morning from 8am-11am. Was going after bass only, but got skunked. No bites or anything. The water clarity was very poor so I think it will be tough fishing there right now. We were throwing spinnerbaits and plastic worms.
Afterwards, we stopped by the Mesquite City Pond and got similar results. Very murky water, and no signs of life as far as bass goes right now. Spoke to some catfishermen while there, and they weren't having much luck either.

Doesn't the hours that Samuell Farms operate pretty much eliminate it from being any use this time of year? I didn't know about the operating hours (9a-5p) before me and my son went out there the other day, we showed up around 3:30 and it was hotter than &#@*! Had not even one bite the whole time. I couldn't help but think what a shame it was that the evening fishing was an impossibility. I'd like to go again, but I suppose we'll have to wait for the first cool front to try again. Can someone verify something for me though... my son and I found the big pond (apprx 2 acres I think) way to the left of the entrance... but is there any others that are worth fishing? We also found 2 small ponds east of the red barn but one had really low water level and the other was totally scummed over the surface (couldn't be fished at all). There were som gates with "authorized personel only", so I assume there are no more ponds further back. Anybody have any tip for this place? TIA.

Doug C i have fished the two biggest ponds with great success...but that was in the spring..havent been there in a while though, there is more ponds that are fishable further back, you can ask the nice lady in the office for a map of the area and if you ask nicely she might even tell you what is stocked in them..early morn i guess would be ur best bet..soon as they open!!

I fished the big pond on the southeast side of Samuell Farms today from 3pm-5pm. Was going for bass. Hooked keeper-sized bass on three occasions (felt like big ones), but lost 'em each time due to poor hooksets. I was throwing a black/blue trick worm. My partner didn't get a single bite throwing spinners, however.
First time fishing there. I was pretty impressed with the waters. Definately beats some of the city parks I have been fishing lately.

Went fishing at Samuel Farm this morning. Tried using texas rigged plastic worms and got nothing. Not even a nibble. As I was fishing I noticed many fish feeding on the top of the water. So, I decided to use a green plastic frog and started top water fishing. I guess I made 10 to 12 casts and that's when it happened. BAAAAAMM!!!! From the depths came a violent bite. Oh Yeah! I let him have it for a second and then landed the hook. That sucker fought well too. Pulled him in, must have been a 5 pounder. Sure felt good. Haven't cought a fish since early August. It's time to catch'em again.

I never have much luck there.. caught one fish there is all, in two trips and it wasn't very big. I can tell it has fish too, but catching them has been tough for me there. Congrats on that big ol bass you landed, there is nothing like a huge hit on a frog and holding off on setting the hook right away is excruciateing, good job. What Frog were you throwing and did you get any other fish on it?

Man I have been living in Mesquite for 14 years and never thought to fish these ponds. I did catch a six pound channel cat at the ranch located on Lawson (right next to Falcon Liar). I also know there is a pond on the backside of the Falcon Liar subdivision that may have some fish in it. That big catfish that was posted from Old Mesquite pond came from the stocking they use to do for the Kidfish event. They always put a 15+ pounder in and would give prizes for anyone who catches it. I bet he was one that never got caught.

I was using a "green pumpkin horny toad" by Zoom. I was able to get another hit on the frog but, I wasn't able to stay disciplined and tried to set the hook too soon. So, that one got away.

Lots of great November fall fishing. Catching plenty of LMB on crank baits. I mean these crank baits are fish magnets. Everytime I get the chance to fish I end up pulling bass out. My daughter is doing the same. The few ponds I fish in Mesquite are producing nice fish. I see alot of other people out fishing these ponds as well, but see or hear no chatter on the forum. Why? If the weather holds up this weekend I will be out fishing on Sunday. Hope to see ya out there.

Pond fishing has been pretty bad for us lately.
Where was that pic taken if you don't mind me asking? Looks like a good spot.

Vince, I'll be headed out tomorrow as well if this front slides in. I always have my best days with a front overhead.
