Lake Conroe and Lake Fork have 4 in Share Lunker Program.
Choke Canyon has 6 in the Share Lunker Program!
This is the Share Lunker Program for 2009.
This year I caught my biggest bass at Choke, so I might be a little bias. Oh...she was 8.3 pounds. Choke would be my favoriate. I also like to fish Sam Rayburn and I can't wait to fish at Falcon.

Also, people seem to like to live in the past. There are a couple of lakes, one in particular, that are not nearly as good as they were 10 or 20 yrs ago. However, bcause this lake may have produced a ton of records and sharelunkers, people will list it near the top even though other lakes have passed it up in the present day.

Also, when you say best lake, what do you constitute as best. Best for big fish, best for numbers, or a combo of the two! Bottom line is that you will get a bunch of different answers based on the person answering.

I will try to give an unbiased opinon, based on the present day, and give a little info on why its the best!

1. Falcon - Just ask the pros. KVD said it was the best in the world after the elite series last year. On this lake you have to have at least 35 lbs to have a chance at a tourny, and the poplulation of 5-8 lbers is crazy. This lake is on a whole nuther level. Numbers and size!

2. Choke Canyon - Though numbers are down this year, sharlunkers are pouring in. I credit this to more lines in the water, the fish were always there. My dad says Choke is now, what Fork was in the 80s! You can have 40 fish days of 2-3 lbers; or slow it down, fish deep, and catch a wall hanger. You need about 30 lbs to be in the money at most tournys! Size and numbers!

3. Conroe - This is the most under-ratted lake in TX by most anglers, because of its large recreation crowd! However, it is plum full of bass, along with other species! Fish wise, I compare it to Choke Canyon every time I fish it. Lots of 2-3 lbers; but you can trophy hunt if you know where to get em! Many tournys see bags of over 30 lbs! This lake has more sharelunkers than any lake other than Fork!

4. Amistad - This lake has about the same populations and size as Falcon, Choke, and Conroe; but they can be a little harder to catch. When it is on, this lake is hard to beat. However, it shuts down more than the other three. However, it also has smallies, something the others do not! Most tourny's see bags of 25-30 lbs!

5. Fork - Traditionally, Fork is the number one lake in TX! However, it has lost ground to other lakes over the past couple of years due to heavy fishing pressure. However, the fish are still there, they are just harder to catch than they used to be. This lake might very well produce TX's first 20 lber if Choke or Falcon doesnt do it first.

So, there you have it! I think that those 5 lakes will pop up the most amongst answers, though the orders might be mixed up. Like I said, Conroe is under-ratted by most anglers but it should be in there. I fish Choke on a daily basis, and falcon regularly; and I say that Conroe is just a hair behind them!

Thanks for that editorial BS. This is an opinion poll not really a scientific one so there are no wrong answers.

Rating a lake according to how many ShareLunkers it put out this year is about like choosing the best store to buy a lotto ticket. It's not going to make any difference to 99.99999% of people who fish there. How about actual results.

Here are my top 3 fish in the last 9 months. 10-3 on 3/24/09, 10-8 on 8/15/08 and 10-13 on 3/6/09
Should I mention the more than 20 8+ lbers that are mixed in between? All from old washed up, has-been Lake Fork. I have been on Fork approx 70 days(mostly 1/2 days) during this time.

You just stated that you "fish Choke on a daily basis" and at Falcon "regularly" so surely your results should far exceed mine.

First off, where did I get scientific. Second off, I was just makeing an honest statement, the way I see it. I fish Choke often and I am seeing less fish this year but more sharelunkers are being caught. Now when I say less, I mean 30 fish days instead of 40s and 50s, also I attribute the rise in sharlunkers only due to the fact that there are more fisherman these days. The sharlunkers were always there, they just didnt have a lure in front of them!

Congrats on all of the good fish that you have caught this year, that is great!! Hey, Fork is a great lake, historically the best, and I mentioned it in the top 5. However, for numbers and size, Choke Canyon and Falcon have surpased it currently. That doesnt mean that Fork is no good, these lakes are just amazing right now. Maybe in a few years Fork will be back on top. It gets enough help from TPWD and Choke and Falcon water levels are beginning to really drop cause of drought, so who knows!

Do you not understand that with these statements you like to place yourself as the authority on the subject while you discount the opinions of others as somehow misguided?!

It's ok, MeSkeeter. I thought your picks and explanations of each were right on, well thought-out and justified. I might have to PM you when I head down to Choke!

Ok hows this..I have been bass fishing since 1969. I guess I have put myself in a box since I have never fished East of Ft. Worth or south of Amistad or west of Odessa. So my favs are
1. Hubbard Creek
2. O. H. Ivie
3. Oak Creek
4. Amistad
5. Lake Champion

Fish any of these at the right time and you have a legitimate chance of catching a sharelunker.

Good list machinist, Great bass fishing is where you find it. Isn't that what really matters?
