I would find areas protected from the south wind back in a cove. Find some deep water like about 15-20ft deep becasue the lake can tend to be a little low and those depths will dold some good fish. I would set out several in the same area so you have some options all on the trolling motor.

totally matters.
request a copy of Crappie 101. Its pretty informative as to where and how deep.
You want it to be weighted well. Maybe overkill.
Look for an area of shore where it drops off pretty quickly. So basically watch your graph and find an area where it drops off to 14' within 30' or less from shore.
Also think about when will you fish it the most? Texas has S prevailing winds so take that into consideration.
Have fun with it!

gonna put them in lewisville, any suggestions what part of the lake? Call the Lewisville Corp of Engineers for some pointers... Maybe read this as well, section 327.20 for starters.
My opinion is worth what you paid for it...

We're you born that way or did you have to work at it? Both... every person is born with a certain mental capacity (heredity), development of this capacity is influenced by the person's background (work). Back to the topic at hand...

It doesn't sound like section 327.20 restricts crappie condos (fish habitat). What's not to like? I assume he was just pointing out to not use the condo for a road, trail, sign, non-portable hunting stand or blind, buoy, dock, or landscape feature as detailed in section 327.20.

I'm totally against breaking rules and putting crappie condos in the lake... unless you tell me where they're at. Then I'm all for it.
I have an AGGIE friend that I helped load four crappie condos onto his boat for Lake Lewisville. Before he set out I told him "don't forget to mark where you put them". He said "Oh, don't worry I will mark the spot."
When he came back there were four big red X's on the side of the boat.

I assume he was just pointing out to not use the condo for a road, trail, sign, non-portable hunting stand or blind, buoy, dock, or landscape feature as detailed in section 327.20. You excluded the 'meat' of the regulation, "The construction, placement, or existence of any structure (including, but not limited to, road, trails, signs.....". Notice the statement 'any structure' and there is no exclusion for 'fish habitat'. You are free to contact the Corp and confirm rather than have an unknown internet poster spoonfeed regulations to you. Lewisville Lake is the Corp's domain, authorization from the Corp is required to place these items, if authorization is not obtained the actor is in violation. Everyone is free to determine what regulations/laws they choose to obey (speeding, littering, etc)... but they are also 'free' to deal with the consequences if/when caught.
