Went ahead and pull the trigger on a new black 09’ Toyota Tundra CrewMax. Pick it up later today. Thanks for all the input.

I understand that there is a big difference if you own a big boat. I have a 18' Ranger F&S it is not light for a 18 footer but does not weight as much a 20' I/O either. I have pulled this boat with probably 10 different trucks. I had an 87 351 H.O. and cranked it up to 95 a had plenty of throttle left. That truck had less HP than my Tacoma. I will admit that my 5.4 Ford pulls better than the Tacoma but it also gets 14-15 mpg versus 21. I have made the decision to forfeit some pulling power for the gas mileage.

That Toyota 4.0L is a nice motor. I love that DOHC. It pulls from no rpms all the way through. If I didn't have the travel trailer I might have gone that route. It would be plenty for a bass boat. But 380hp? Now THAT makes me want to trade my Ford in.

I love HPs as much as anyone but with the volatility of gas prices I have to be practical too. As far as Ford's go it took them a long time to chase me off but they finally suceeded. I still have 3 in the drive way though. I have not told her yet but she is going to the Toyota dealer first and if she still insists on a Ford she can go by herself.

No finger pointing here. I went a little more economical, myself. The wife drives the 5.4L Expy and I traded my full size truck in for a mustang gt. wink That's as gas friendly as I care to get. I've owned a Taco and a whole lot of Fords. I like Toyota but you tend to pay a premium for what it is. But I may bite the bullet and get a Sequoia in another year or two, anyway.

I have a 08 (Silver) Tundra 5.7 sr5 4X4. It is the best truck I have ever owned. I had a 06 Tundra 4.0 v-6 and upgraded to the 5.7 for the power. I got 4X4 because I stuck my 06 3 times. I have a fishing hole that you have to drive through some mud to get to so the 4X4 comes in handy. My wife drove my truck so now she wants the Sequoia with the 5.7.

Good choice on the Tundra, now just add the TRD Supercharger to make you forget all about that GMC.

Mine is a 4X2 with the TRD OFF Road package and I have never had a problem with traction.

You always hear people say " you can't even tell the boat is back there". This is the first truck I can honestly say, you forget a boat is behind you and I have a Ranger Z21 that is almost 6,000 pounds with boat, trailer, motor, etc.

Call Matt Bawcum at Toyota of Paris before you sign on the dotted line. He has always treated me right and the service is unbelievable.
a 21 ft bass boat weighs 3 tons now ??? wow...and i thought i had a heavy 23 ft, deep v, center console when it weighed in at 7700 lbs.....

Weight makes a difference but wind drag is a big part of towing also. An 18' and a 21' bass boat of similar design are going to have the same wind resistance. I towed my father in laws pontoon that was lighter than my bass boat but dragged the truck down much more.
