What is "chime" walking?

Primary reason I didn't go with a Triton. I drove several and didn't want to have to fight the boat when running down the lake. Last thing I want to worry about when running poles is whether or not I'm actually in control of the boat. Other than that Triton is a great boat. I can 73mph in my Skeeter ZX250 with no hands on the steering wheel for as long as I want. Once I drove it I knew that was the boat for me.

I started a reply explaining the causes of chine walk, but the bottom line is, it's all about set-up. Prop it right, raise it up, set it back, don't over trim. Back in the day, before hydraulic steering, you had to "drive" every high performance boat. You get a feel for what the boat was doing; just a slight jerk of the wheel is all it takes to get control of the boat. It just becomes natural. Like the guy said, seat time. I used to run Skeeters, now I run Tritons. They're both excellent boats, not rockets, but fast. Anything over seventy, you'll be running with the front pack. The key is still set-up, and learn how to use what you got.

I really love my Triton and since Im not as young as I use to be, going 60mph is fine for me now. However in 2 - 3 years if I get another boat, I'm thinking Skeeter. Main reason is I have heard the skeeter is much better handling in rough water.

What Ranger ran 75? After 22 years of running Rangers, I went to the Dark Side and bought a Kitty Cat. Love it......

I have on 07 21x2. Put a 10" hyd jack on it, made a few WOT passes to see where the boat liked the plate set at and haven't had an issue with any chine walking. Sure I can trim it way up and make it walk but that is not where the boat likes to run at. As for hole shots, I come up on plane faster than most.

I have a 21X2 that will bump 80, no problem with walk, or hole shot, when I first bought the boat it did not handle well, come to find out the engine was about 2 inches too low, the x2's are heavy boats, may want to try the Fury prop, it is the ticket.

I got my triton 21x last year and it took me about 20 min. to learn how to drive it. That was during the test drive. When you learn how to drive it you dont have to fight the wheel and the boat will not chime walk. Mine will gps 79mph. No skeeter can touch that. And as far as rough water goes you cant beat a triton. My skeeter would beat me up in rough water. Triton is the best boat out there. my 2 cents

so far the best I've done with my 21X is 84.0 and I don't consider myself a good driver like some..what I've found out is jackplate and setup mean everything..check out details under "boats" on web site

I have a 21x that I will let you drive 70 with no hands. It is all about set up put don't go to deep. Naturally as with most anything you can have high top end or can have great hole shot or you can have good all around performance and that is with any boat. Alot of guys make the assumption that theirs should run like so an so's boat it just don't happen no two hulls from any brand boat are the same and then you add all of your goodies. Person 1 may be running a stock prop on his boat to where person 2 may be running blueprinted prop just for his set up. Also loads and the balance of loads will have a effect on how your boat rides. Like has been said several time it don't matter the brand of boat. It is about the seat time. Sure some boats handle better straight from the dealer but you have to realize that it is set up so that anyone can drive it weather it is test drive or for what ever reason but with that you probably are losing something more than likely top end. With proper set up and balancing No boat should be working you to death and you should not be so far out that it scares you. If it is scring you then you probably will not give the boat the chance to perform the way it should because you will always back out of the throttle when you should'nt have to. I am on the water most every week-end and If you would like to take the time to go out and set up your boat or would like some on the water tips shoot me a IM. I am usually on Rayburn or Conroe.

I think I'll "chime" in here. It is "chine" walk, not "chime" walk. This is a good article addressing the problem.

My ranger will Actually chine walk when u have it set up just right the walk is minimal and very easy to correct. I am a previous bass cat owner (puma/cougar)and that a boat you have to drive, but my cougar would also run 81-82. My Ranger Z520 will also run 74.5. Ain't bad for a Ranger, that is easy to drive, a dry ride and super comfortable in ruff water.
