I've had my TR196 for 5 months now and I'm still not comfortable going 60+. It starts to walk on me around 63mph and I don't like that feeling. I had a Ranger and had confidence going 75 but not so with this one. Two of my neighbors have Tritons and they said it took them a year to have confidence in their ability to go 70+.
I really love my Triton and since Im not as young as I use to be, going 60mph is fine for me now. However in 2 - 3 years if I get another boat, I'm thinking Skeeter. Main reason is I have heard the skeeter is much better handling in rough water.

How do you skeeter guys run timber, motor trimmed up so there is less risk to the lower unit?? They seem to porpus pretty bad when u see guys doing it(trying) and it's not bc they can't drive bc I have seen some big names doing it?as far as the chime walking get on utube, there are some good videos that are very instructional.

Skeeter is way better than the X2 Triton I was driving. The X2 was a pig on a hole shot-especially if the livewells were full and started chine walking at 60. Wish I had looked at Skeeters when I bought the Triton. The only other two boats I would consider are Champion and Basscat. I have a great Skeeter dealer close by which made it a wrap.

+1 on the skeeter my 202 handles 70+ with ease had it over 70 in my first month. as far as the porpassing it can be resolved by trim correction if that doesnt work ill bring her a little farther out of the water with the throttle than slow back to the ideal speed the porpassing will stop

Try a 4 blade prop it will tame the walk!
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

I'd rather feel safe and going slow than riding in a walking boat...

how long did it take you to learn to drive your triton? raise the motor with the jackplate 1/4" at a time until you start losing water pressure at WOT. Tritons don't drive well with the motor too low. 4 blade prop isn't going to help much. You will learn it. Just remember slight twitches to the left. Always left. It doesn't take much.

"no guts no glory " has nothing to do with this. I have had my TR196 at 72 several times, but I don't like it. I don't like having to correct it all the time.

Your post is most interesting. My 20 X2 comes out of the hole (full gear, livewells, 54 gallons of fuel, 400lbs of anglers) and runs 74.4, I don't have a chine walking problem, can run on plane at 17 MPH, my motor is currently all the way down and I don't need a rainsuite to keep me dry running big waves.

Seat time makes a huge difference. I have had three XHP Tritons which are the fast hull Tritons and have run them 80 GPS several times and no walk. It took me some time to get confidence but now it's like riding a bike. Motor height is key along with sufficient seat time. And the X2 has incredible hole shot and handling. They are the only bass boat with the gas tank moved foward like a center console which is all for hole shot, I mean a 13 year old could drive this boat 70 so I'm not so sure about the earlier post. There is probably a reason Triton is the second highest selling boat in the U.S. next to Ranger.
