I usually have good success with spinnerbaits against the bulkheads early. Later a shakey head thrown under the docks works. Once the fish move out look for brush piles in 14-16 ft. of water. The point just to the left(west) of the free boat launch on 830 has brush and has been a great producer for me in the past.

I went there today. Lots of wind and lots of ski boats in the protected areas, which made the fishing less than fun. Fished mostly up in Caney Creek, but it was slow all day. Had several bites on a CR, but they wouldn't hold on to it. Couple that with the wind and it was almost impossible to hook up with fish. Slow day all around.
Water temps were in the 70s, and the water was remarkably clear considering the recent rains.

Capt Rusty, we had the same experience then. I went up and put in at April Plaza, had a few bumps on a CR, nothing solid. Between the wind and the joy riders it was a typical Saturday afternoon on Conroe!

The best part was watching people at the ramp, one guy drug his foot on a party barge all the way up the ramp and through the parking lot, I guess eventually he got it wore down where it would not rub. I may start making that a late afternoon trip on the weekends!

I might go back late today depending on the weather.

Lots of those early May 12 to 15' Carolina Bites are Crappie on the sinker. If you don't believe that go back and sink some minnows down there.

You're probably right, alot of them felt pretty light and more of a tick, tick, tick... rather than a thuump. Do you suppose using a dull lead sinker rather than a brass w/glass bead would eliminate this?

I went back out Sunday and had the same problems even though it was calm. All afternoon was slow. We put in at the public ramp above the bridge, and like your experience, it was a circus. People swimming next to the ramp, boats making crunching sounds against various objects, etc. Kinda fun to watch idiots being idiots.

The c-rigs are producing if you get on the fish. Cranks are getting a few bites too. Mostly been catching them in 8-12 feet. If you just want to catch catfish, hit pretty much any bulkhead with any bait and get ready. With this warmer weather though, I doubt that bite will last much longer.

Yeah, I second what gfarley said. You can also check out www.lakeconroefishingguides.com those guys post a pretty accurate fishing report for all species each week. Good luck and plan on being off the water by 10 a.m. unless you enjoy getting waked by all the recreational weekenders!

If you are going to fish during the weekend plan on fishing the north end of the lake to avoid the pleasure boaters. Just be careful of all the stumps.

One reason things are so " secretive" on Conroe is the fact that again there is no cover in the lake. That means someone has to sink brush in specific area's to create it. There is a cost to this and may be a reason why. Also, a great brush pile in the right spot can put a check in your pocket at a tourney at the right time. A lake full of cover ( hydrilla) changes that and instead of small brush piles 500 sq. feet ( size of KITCHEN). Other lakes have good "area's or drop off's" that are much larger in size and people are more willing to share general area's than specific brush piles that they spent their money creating. That being said, I am no expert, but I am willing to share because if no one shared with me, I would have hauled water for a few years and quit. PM me if anyone is interested. Again I am no expert, but do have some success on Conroe.

From first light till about 9am the shad will be on he bulkheads and then they move off into deeper water.

I caught a 2 - 3 # goo on a sexy shad crank.... on conroe... Ugly fish I heqar some eat them. Mine swam away.

I believe a gasper goo is nothing more than a black drum, like the saltwater variety.
I have caught salt water black drum. The smaller ones are fine table fare.
If I catch a gasper goo, he's gonna get et'.
