It's almost certainly not a Rock Bass. While Rock Bass is often a term used in Texas for a Warmouth, a true Rock Bass is actually a totally different species of fish very rarely found in Texas.

Rock Bass are generally found up north, and north east. Think Minnesota over to the east coast, for example.

Warmouth however, are found across the south, and very commonly caught here in Texas, while Rock Bass are very rarely seen in our waters.

Your fish looks like a typical Warmouth to me, I certainly caught and helped identify a lot of them over the last few years worth of TXFishes contests. ( We've been too busy to run one so far this year sadly. )

Nice fish!

Oh yeah...Warmouth are a member of the sunfish family, just like Bluegill, which means they're quite tasty! Hehehe. Catch enough of them to make a meal and you'll be eating well.

How would you cook them? I just let them all go. But Reading up on it eathing them may help some become larger for fishing later on.

Those would be some of the best fish you've ever eaten...just scale them, cut off the head/guts...roll in Louisiana Fish Fry and fry those dudes.

I know what this one is! I'm stoked pond has hard fighting sunfish and Largemouth bass... I can hit it after work any time I need to get a hook wet. Makes a long day at the office a LOT better.

If they're big enough to eat, I just fillet them up like any other fish.

I agree has to be warmouth. I went back and caught more and the smaller ones do have the green bands radiating from the eyes.
