I live in the Houston area and have the hardest time finding Yamalube. The last time I bought some the dealer told me they buy in bulk. He says it's Quicksilver made by Citgo and is exactly the same as Yamalube. I bought the Yamalube in the 1 gallon jugs, but wondering if any TFF'ers use Quick Silver in their Yamaha's

I take my jugs back to my dealer and do refills,,,much cheaper. I always keep at least two gallons on hand.

If you have an HPDI run the premium plus if you have a efi or carb run Premium I understand that Quicksilver is owned by Mercury Marine Inc., but i doubt Mercury Marine has a refinery that they use to produce there own oil. They buy it from some big oil company (Citgo, Exxon, Mobil, etc) and slap their label on the bottle.

Actually my HPDI's (had 2 now) run better on QS-plus. I have run maybe 2-cases of Yamalube over the last 7-8 yrs.
QS-plus has given zero problems, especially in the pocket book.

Curious - how exactly has changing oils helped your motor "run better"? I'm not disputing your claim, but just wondering what kind of significant difference you were able to pinpoint?

lubricity, smoother torque, less smoking, less sputtering.. additives that get burned along with the fuel(2 cycle engine) can make a lot of difference.

I'm also exploring making the switch from Yamalube to Quicksilver in my 2004 150 Vmax.
Can I just start adding Quicksilver to the Yamalube in my reservoir or do I need to run down/drain the YL before going to Quicksilver?

It is my understanding that part of the TCWIII certification process involves the compatibility of oils. What I mean is that they are expected to safely be mixed between brands. Not sure but I recall reading a report that mentioned this. I will look it up.

Bristow(NTF) should chime in on this about the goop he has seen in oil containers(in boats) from mixing oils.

Here is all you have wanted to know about outboard oil and then some. Its a long read but specifically mentions that part of the TCW3 certification process involves mixing bands together and observing for a set period of time. No gelling was noted and would be a fail point to obtaining certfication. Pretty interesting. Not doubting repair shops find gelling but i wonder if it can be attributed to other outside contaminants.
