It seems to me the crappie were actually in shallower water at the end of March than they are now, at least in the four local lakes I have been fishing in lately. All the crappie I have caught still have eggs, so I'm not sure the spawn has happened in east Texas yet due to the rain and cold fronts.
My questions, how deep are the crappie that everyone is catching this week? Have the ones you caught already spawned out? I have tried everywhere from 2'in the creeks to 10' in the lakes, from sunken brush, bridge pilings and boats docks, and am only getting 1-2 a day.

I caught some yesterday that had eggs coming out of them and they were caught in 10 foot of water. Most still had eggs.... shouldn't be long.

Found them in 5-12 foot of water on brush yesterday at LL. Spend a good hour or so fishing shallower and then decided to pull back some and managed to get a few.

I have been catching loads of crappie at lake whitney right off as shallow as half a foot. Anywhere there are big rocks or grass, these would be very hard to catch if you are in a boat. I have been catching them with white grubs when I feel like casting and then 1 to 2 feet out from the bank with a hand tied jig or bass assasin. Easiest fishing I have ever experienced. I would think that they are doing the same thing in the lakes in east texas too, this has been going on for about 2 1/2weeks now.

I forgot to add that I am fishing parallel to the bank and keeping it in the strike zone, alot of times I will see them shooting out from the rocks or grass to hit it, lots of fun to fish this way.

The main differences between the local lakes here and Lake Whitney is that these are smaller, shallow lakes, with mostly muddy shores. I lived near Whitney for 28 years, and if I was there I wouldn't have issues finding them This past Thursday at LOP I watched the water surface temp go from 68* to around 55* after a brief rain shower, then warm back up to around 60* before I was ran off the lake by incoming thunderstorms. In 7 hours I covered about three miles of water, and was only able to get a single crappie in one spot about six feet deep.

Oh sorry then I guess I would not be able to to help you there. So there is no grass growing close to the banks? I just know they have really like anything that provides cover, maybe there are some areas with alot of grass that are shallow but out from the bank or something. I was actually dropping my jig around the grass edges and into the grass with a 1/32oz lead head and white grub.

There is plenty of grass and cover in the shallows, and I was catching them near it 2-3 weeks ago. Since then, the water temps have been dropping due to rain/cold fronts occurring on average about every three days. We were catching a good amount in 3-6' about mid March, then they suddenly disappeared with the rainy cold weather. I sure wished I could find the shallow but I haven't been lucky yet I guess.

There is no reason for you to be an [censored], I am just trying to get information. It isn't like I am asking for GPS cords to people's personal brush piles.

ok ok ok.... they are still in the shallow during a cold front push off about 8 to 10 feet in deeper water and once water temps warm back up move back in to the shallows.... keep trying and looking they are there or will be soon... keep slabbing!!!
