That'll work just fine. Just make sure the drag is not set too tight, then go for it!

It's as good as you are.Sure it will work.I have some high end stuff, but my 24 dollar wal mart rod still makes every trip.I've had it for over 10 years now with no issues.I broke a 220 dollar rod last week the second time I used it.

It's usually the Indian not the arrows that makes the difference.

Me and most of my bud's are living proof you don't have to spend $100's on a R&R to catch fish. Those who do...More power to ya. No negative comments form me on that. But those of us who can't....we catch fish too. And I do as well as most people I see on the water almost every time I'm out there.

I buy Abu baitcast reels, Berkley Rods, and whatever spinning reels feel good to me. I limit myslef to around $50 at most on any one component, and as long as I take care of it, it usually lasts me a very long time. I've got set-ups for under $100 that are over ten years old and still in perfect working order. It's just a matter of keeping them clean and lubed properly.

Yeah, higher end stuff usually has smoother drags. And I might not be able to put as much pressure on a fish as some can with the expensive stuff. But I fish open water, and have never lost a fish due to cheaper equipment. Lost plenty....But I can account for at least one mistake I make as the angler on every one of those.

My 2 cents, which ain't worth much these days,

Jay

My two favorite rods are a pair of Berkely Bionix spinning rods, I paid maybe $40 apiece years ago. They've hauled in trout, crappie, bass, walleye, and pike.

My kid once caught a nice redfish on a Snoopy rod and reel outfit.

It's more the fisherman than the pole.

I'll second the "not the arrows it's the indian" statement.

It really depends on what your purpose is. If you are catfishing, bluegill fishing, or just fishing for anything that will bite.

If you've spent $40 on a rod, then whatever brand it is, I bet it will work just fine for most applications. Besides, if you shop at Wal-Mart (as I do) for fishing gear, you're probably not a pro anyway. Good luck with it.

Agreed...no need for high-end gear unless you're getting something really special, like getting into surf rods or big beefy reels for catfishing/surf casting. Only components I've got that are anywhere near "high end" in price are an Abu 7000 C3 and a 10' Tsunami casting rod...oh...and my 16' jigging pole for crappie (they don't make that length cheap). Everything else is either cheapy, bought used, or bought on clearance (my favorite).

No fish is too good for the grease.

If you like spinning reels, pick up a rod at walmart or academy and put a cardinal reel on it, they are a good cheap reel and so far have held up well for me. I have a rod/reel that i have about $30 in and it works just as well as my set ups that cost three times that.
