I would have done the same thing myself.
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the boat looking like an idiot.

off the subject, but check out this coral snake i found the other day. biggest ive ever seen. i usually find em no bigger than 12" this one was about 2 1/2 feet. thats huge for a coral. Most species of coral snake are small in size. North American species average around 3 feet (91 cm) in length, but specimens of up to 5 feet (150 cm) or slightly larger have been reported. Aquatic species have flattened tails, to act as a fin, aiding in swimming.

Thats a rat snake for sure...came across a whole nest of water moccasins...1/2 way back into little caney just past where the manican used to be...the pipeline that runs to the south side...there is a pond at back of this run with a beaver damn on the left side going into the pond...that beaver damn has at least 10 snakes in it crawlin all over each other...freaked me out
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I'll add this also, I grew up in south Florida and always had an intrest in snakes. I kept snakes that I caught as pets even poisonous ones. With this being said, I've lived here in Central Texas for 3 years now and have fished just about every lake in the area at least a dozen times and I have yet to see a Water Mocasin. I have seen numerous water snakes but never have I come across a water mocasin. I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm just saying that 99% of the snakes you guys see in the water are going to be harmless. I have seen several Copperheads, matter of fact I've never seen this many Copperheads anywhere else. I also hunt so I spend alot of time in the woods along with the lakes. In my three years here, the Coperhead is the only poisonous snake I've come across so far. You haven't been in the right water than Huck. As a kid we used to go "snake huntin" with pellet guns and arrows(no bow, just stabbed em) and we would kill 5-10 of the blackest, skunk smelling-est cottonmouths you've ever seen in clear creek just south of Sanger. The biggest one was maybe only 40" or so. We killed a few diamond back watersnakes but mostly left them alone. I'm with you though, most of the snakes found around the water are diamond back water snakes. It's unfortunate that people can't tell the difference between the two.

That snake got up on our dock we were fishing on and was going to come our way. They are pretty bad down there. What would happen if I get bit by that snake?
