Due to the recent spike in Boats getting broke into, I've invested in a boat alarm. I had one several years ago on a Stratos, and the peace of mind I got out of it was amazing.
I had a GOOD auto alarm installed, with switches on each one of my lids. Not only that, I've upgraded the remotes to the ones that page me if there is someone breaking into the boat. Not only will the remote go off if the shock sensor of the alarm is disturbed, but is someone lifts a lid, it will tell me which one it is.
That way I can see that someone has not only disturbed my boat, but also see on the remote if they have actually gotten into one of the compartments.
I figured this was cheap insurance against the risk of a boat break in.
The guys at Classy in North Richland Hill did a great job.
Their info is:
Classy Window Tinting and Accessories 8011A Grapevine Hwy NRH, Tx 76180 817-788-2319
It if a fellow TFF'r that works there.
Call them about the price for your boat. You will have to tell them how many lids you want to be monitored.
This is an excellent way to protect your hard earned fishing gear!

Sweet!! I am sometimes nervous at the hotels without the boat covered, but then I remember the nicer boats next to mine and get some relief!!
You are correct tho, a broken latch is easier to replace than gear/electronics and whatnot!!!

I put a driveway alarm on the carport where I keep by boat of coarse that is only good when at home. It don't have a siren just sets the pager off inside the house I don't want to scare anyone off.

Shell, you will need to call the company that installs them for a price.

Due to all the break ins at Fork this weekend, I'm bumping this to the top again.
Don't think you are immune to this problem. If you ever stay at a motel at the lake, you are a prime target!

I've often thought about it. I usually take my expensive rods and reels out of mine and bring them home when I park My boat at the mini storage. Even though it's right up against the on-site employee's house, and I lock my compartments, I still dont like leaving a Calcutta reel or a high dollar rod in there. I keep a cover on the boat too....but still....I like the idea of an alarm. I'm less than 3 minutes from my boat while I'm at home...so yeah.... I may look into an alarm.

Ditto: Over the past years, having fished numerous bass tournaments, I've seen boats stripped. Everything from props to batteries to trolling motors, even tires. I've seen this done at Falcon,Amistad, Lake Corpus Christi, Lake Brownwood, Lake Austin, Townlake, and Whitney. Bottom line is; If you don't have a credit card to go rebuy the stollen items, You're from out of town, GO HOME. I not only had a securitiy system in my boat, but I also added a highly sensitive system in my tow vechical. It was so sensitivy that if you leaned on my boat, it would beep a warning at you.....

I've always said, that if I was a thief, I could make a living on Cedar Creek just swiping props off boats while in their lifts. That's why we wanted to put a chain link garage door on the lift over there....but the Tarrant county water board wont allow it. Which doesnt make any sense at all.

I may have found an installer in Odessa Texas. I'll be taking my boat over this week and see what kind of system they can put in. I'll keep folks posted on what we do. Talked to Oscar Galindo in NRH and he gave some good info on the systems he is installing.

I want to put an Alarm on my boat. The boat alarms are expensvie. I may get a car alarm and install myself and use the magnetic switches on all the lids.
I pretty much took everything out of my boat back in my tournament days, it was bad on Falcon back in the day. But I am getting concerned about the gated subdivsion I live in when I bring my boat home from the storage.
South Texas hit hard times in the early 80's when oil went bust, everything not tied down would get carried off. It's getting the same way again.
Thanks, Billy

Billy, the guys I used to install the alarm on my boat didn't use a "Boat Alarm." They used a really nice auto alarm. The typical boat alarms are just shock sensors and don't have the capacity for the lids to be monitored. That was my goal. I wanted something in the event someone opened a lid plus a shock sensor.

Mike, I took my boat over to Odessa today for the installer check it out and see what we could do. Monday Rick is installing a Viper shock sensor along with a pin for the battery compartment lid. We may upgrade to a motion sensor later on if needed. So far the cost of the install is $300. I think I will be sleeping a lot better next week. Thefts are getting pretty bad out this way. West Texas folks that need an install,,,,, Baldwin Electronics is doing mine.
