Shouldn't that result in a lot more fish living, and so more fish in the lake?

Cause it's not very noticeable if it is. smirk

I guess it has to do with the lake being silted in and a lack of structure in the main part of the lake...I have not had much luck on ol' worthless myself also.

i wonder about that, too. it definitely means a lot of fish which are caught in the lake are released back into it.

i dont think the numbers of fish in the lake are dramatically higher as a result of the ban, though.

I think that the fish eat each other and die,...keeping the count down.

Worth has more crappie than just about any other lake I have ever seen. The sandbass are HUGE also! Once you figure out how to fish Worth you will be surprised at the quality of fish she holds. In an all day tournament it usually takes 15-18 lbs to win, heck last wed nights bass tournament from 6-9pm took 4 fish for 16.5 with a big fish just under 8 lbs!

I was thinking the same thing when I read the OPs question.

You think "they" know there is a ban? You think they would care?

The fish from Worth wont hurt you to eat them! You would have to eat 8 ounces a day for 20 years before you would get enough toxins in your body to even show up. The ban is alot, lot, lot harder to lift than it is to apply. I have friends that live on the lake and have been to all the board meetings. The state would actually lift the ban if it wasnt such a hassle.

Yeah, we've figured that out. Yet, we still just love to bass fish.

While me and my pops are out there fishing for bass, and having no luck, my mom will just come down with her crappie pole and catch like 5 fish in 30 minutes, and then be done while we sit there and cast over and over again and catch nothing.

Yeah, that's what my great grandma used to tell us. We have ate them too, but still, I'll pass. I want to go to the board meetings. I don't know why, but I've really been feeling more like getting involved in my town somehow.

Yeah, while you're at it ask to see their fishing licenses.

i'd honestly rather take the government's word for it, instead of some guy's opinion from the internet. wink if you're so sure, i guess you will eat fish from that lake...

i find that hard to believe. seriously? the government is keeping the ban in place, keeping tons of fisherman from enjoying this lake as a matter of public health, because its a "hassle"? what, do they have too many forms to fill out? i've never heard this before. where in the news is all of this information.

There used to be a sign up stating what Shayne posted in regard to the consumption ban. Heck, I say leave the ban on the lake and keep more fisherman headed to EM and Marine Creek! Though it would be nice to get some carnivores out there to thin out the sandie population.

Heres the down low, I found the PFD and a 180 pound man can consume 1.25 meals (8 grams of fish per meal) per week for his ENTIRE life without going over the risk amount. Its a much bigger deal with children than adults. So if you eat Crappie from Worth one or two times a year you have nothing to worry about. Heres the link that will get ya to the PDF. Thats on Table 3.

http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/seafood/survey.shtm

Scroll down a ways and you will see it, its the 228kb PDF file.
