Shame they closed creslin park that was a great place to catch crappie. Used to go there back in the 80`s what a loss.Guess it`s just a sign of the times. Though no one can take the memorie`s.It was a great place to go on those windy texas day`s it will be missed by those who had the good fortune to fish it. JD

Thanks Fishbonz, I'm glad to know you can still access the lake. I'd give it a try if I had a tube or two man boat as it looks like it has some possibilities.
I don't know about Creslin Park, must have been before I moved down here. I have driven south on 1667 and seen the bridges and even a few bank fishermen. The power plant is on the west side. If you continue on down 1667, just before you hit the end, there is an area I've seen guys in two man boats that look like they were catching some crappie. No posted signs and I don't know if it is part of Creslin or not. It's maybe another two miles and you might want to check it out if you go down that way again.

Hey OkieBob! my old fishing buddy ,Sarge, tells me that the area you are speaking of at the end of fm 1667 is where Creslin Park was located about a generation ago.Did you see where there was easy access to the water? This sounds like somewhere I should also try!

This sounds like somewhere I should also try! I wasn't paying all that much attention to it but, it must have been fairly easy as there were two jon boats on the water that I could see. Their pickups were parked next to the road and the water was maybe 25' from the road. You should be able to easily launch a two man boat.

This morning I decided I would take a little trip down to Trinidad and take a look at a couple of potential fishing spot for the upcoming spring Crappie spawn. The Area looked very Fishy as the Ole Folks would say and although it was very murky, they both were accessable to the prudent angler with a two man or solo rig!I can`t wait!! There is a lot more fishable water around the bend to the left. The other spot will take a little more work to get into but doable.

If i remember right before you get to water but inside where the gate is on the right is TPW sign and on the left was a part that said no fishing but I have n=been kicked out of better places . If you walk to what i am thinking is east you can get to that cement thing which should hold some fish on a sunny day. i have seen a few guys catching a mixed bag of crappie, catfish and a. couple sun fish. when i was there lake was pretty clear. ( maybe last spring, early summer) I hear stories that is was a great lake for BIG crappie at one time. Good luck.

Fishbonz I just got back from driving around the Trinidad City Lake myself. The picture you just posted is on the west end of the lake just after you go through the gate. Looks like you could launch there to me. If you were to walk to where the 'cement thing' is, there is a sign that says 'no fishing'. But, you can fish anywhere other than that area as far as I can tell.
I also drove south on 1667 all the way to the end. On your right, maybe 100 yards from the end of the road there is a place you could also launch. Not sure where it would take you other than what you can see. The other side of the road is fishable but, much more difficult to launch even a jon boat.
Back up to the bridges you pass over the lake the power plant is on have no fishing signs for the bridges and the entire lake seems to be fenced with no trespassing or no fishing signs up. Guess you could fish directly under the bridges, maybe one man at a time.
Next time you head this way, give me a call and maybe we could meet up?

The two pic`s I just posted are not the City Lake but the end of fm1667.I have`nt posted any of the City Lake yet.Back to the fm1667 lake there is a lot more water back there that`s out of view .I look it up on my navionics mapping chip and there is a bend to the left just out of view from the road. This is the water on the right side of the road with the little black ramp..My fishing buddy (sarge) says he has fished it before and caught big Crappie & Bass in it before from his little two man boat so I guess i`ll be hittin it up this spring

Ok, I know the place. Was just there this afternoon. That is the one I said before I didn't know what it did from the road. Looks like a great place to hit. Keep me posted on how you do when you get there. And the offer to meet up is good anytime!

It is my understanding the power plant lake is closed although employees are allowed to fish it. Supposedly stocked years ago with Florida strain largemouth bass but I've never heard about the crappie fishing.
