I am looking for a good rod and have a Kistler and like it. A sales guy told me to try the Carrot stick. Anyone have any comparison data?

I've never owned a Carrot Stick. I've owned one Kistler and gave it away.

Personally, I prefer St. Croix Avid, or Legend series rods. I'm also fond of Falcon Lowriders, and Caras.

Just my two cents,

The Carrot Sticks are very sensitive and I like the foam grips and the over-the-counter warranty.

I would take a Kistler any day over one of those Chinese pieces of junk carrot sticks.

I guess you haven't checked where nearly all of the Kistlers are made.

Mark doesn't seem to think the Carrot Sticks are junk and last I heard, he had to pay for his.

I believe Kistler is now rolling their own blanks.

They must be rolling them in China. Most all the rods I saw today at Cabela's, including 2 of the new series had made in China on the butts. The LTAs and LTXs are designed, engineered and inspected at our office in the USA as well as "hand crafted", but that doesn't mean the blanks were rolled here. They've always been very evasive about where the blanks were made.

At the ICAST show Kistler said they were going to start making their own blanks because the ones they were using were breaking too often.

You guys ever just sit around in your house, and look around at the stuff you own? How much of it is made overseas? How much of it is assembled in Mexico? Heck for that matter you would be suprised how much of the food you eat is from overseas. Alot of the companies that were born in the US are going overseas to have their products made to save money on labor. It is just the way it is guys. I wish it was different but owning a company is all about making money and if you were making rods, reels, lures etc. and could save thousands of dollars a year to have the products made in another country I bet you would do it also. And I know alot of you will say you would not, but face it this country revolves around the mighty dollar, or not so mighty shall I say.

Just because a product is assembled in another country does not mean it is not a good product. Alot of the vehicles we drive everyday, depend on to get us to work, and to tow our boats are assembled in other countries. Before you knock something for being made or assembled overseas you should try it out. I would be willing to bet in the future almost everything we buy will be from another country. Were not that far from it now.

I try like the devil not to buy foreign made products. That is why I have so much old stuff. I will admit it is hard but in some cases I used a different product instead of what I would like to use.

Well said Skeeter! Sad but true. Attention: To all of those that hate their Kistler rods please let me know before you give them away. I will come pick them up and haul them off for free. Sure will save me from buying new ones every year...

I broke a Kistler last year on my first hookset. I went back and got a G Loomis, and have been happy since.

I believe I'll stick with Falcons or custom made rods. I won't ever have a Kistler to give away, because I would never buy one in the first place.

Heck, I have a Nissan truck built in Tennessee and a Ford Focus which was probably built in Canada or Mexico.

Oops...the Focus was built in Michigan, but the engine was built in Mexico...my bad.

And don't forget...many things still made in the good ol' USA is still cr*p. That's part of the problem we have today.
