I've been out here and there over the last 6 weeks or so whenever the weather warmed up, but it's been really really slow.

Everyone seems quite anxious about the pre-spawn fishing. I've only been bass fishing since last summer, which I assume is after spawn.

When/where/what can I expect as a bank fisherman at Grapevine (Murrell) regarding the spawn, and what do I need to do differently from the summertime? Help educate a noob!

#1 tip for a newbies to bass fishing and you don't have to spend big bucks$$,get a good pair of polarized sun glasses and wear them
#2 start paying attention to movement along the water as your walking there could be some clues hammer
#3 and anybody feel free to add to (it was asked for)keep asking questions even when they may seem obvious(you may get a different answer! thumb

#6 if you can't catch fish, get a camera and take pics of your

Hey John,

I havent been back to the pond since then, just hit GV once with no luck. Send me a PM when you want to hit the lake together, I'm most available Tues - Thurs, but can do Sat/Sun afternoons/evenings too.

Thanks Rudy for starting me off with some tips! I'll take as many pointers as I can, so keep 'em coming!

So I guess the bass are easy to sight fish in the shallows? Any specific topography that I should seek out more than usual like shallow flats, sandy shorelines, etc.? Or will they still be at the more traditional points and dropoffs?

I mainly use t-rigged worms or lipless cranks or a popper if there's a school feeding on the surface - Are there any lures/colors/sizes that are more specific and effective during the spawn time (I have a few rooster tails I'll make sure to keep around). Any that I should cut down on using until summer?

Nother one: is the low lake level part of a yearly cycle? If so, will it be late spring/early summer before it's back up to normal?

If anyone sees me at Murrell, stop by and say hi. 99% of the time I'm wearing a UT Longhorn visor (there was that one time I threw it in the lake cause i walked through a huge spider web and freaked out)

i've been in GV once a week bank fishing for a month. last weekend hit was 3 of us and we it 2 buffs, 3 cats, and a carp. i did see soem fish activity near a hole. looked like some sandies going for some shads.

i switched out my catfish rig to my lures and got no luck on anything. i might have to come back with a casting net and use live bait.
