Did u see all the big fish being kept out here on amistad after it got all the attention from B.A.S.S, FLW, etc... Having a slot on fork to keep your big in the lake might be a good thing considering it is one of the most visited lakes in the state!!!

That is exactly what will happen, however that's not a good argument for keeping a slot. The intention of the slot is to grow larger bass.

That has to be done on a lake by lake basis. I don't like slots, I haven't seen anyone post definitive data that they work anymore. Fork is the exception because of it's popularity and pressure especially during the spring.

So the lake will get pounded but that is not a valid reason unless it is Fork????

I would lift the slot of Grapevine and Joe Pool at the same time.

It's an assumption that it will get pounded, it's a Fact that Fork does.

Again though it's apples to oranges. How many anglers do you think fish on Ray Roberts a year? Fork will have 10x that amount of pressure. People come from all over the WORLD (it's bolded because it's significant) to fish on Lake Fork. Ask someone in Arkansas if they have ever heard of Ray Roberts.

I agree on lifting the slot on Ray Roberts but there is no way to lift the slot of Fork just way to much pressure even during the winter. This last weekend caught a 22.5" - 9lb plus and would hate to see someone keep this fish instead of letting it go to grow bigger next year.

The biologists that reccommended the slot initially now say it is not working. They have made the reccomendation to remove it. Are they wrong?

If you fished Roberts when it opened you remember parking out on road because of the crowds and limited number of ramps. How many ramps (public/private) does Fork have compared to Roberts? I fish during the week and so I won't have to put up with the crowds... but add tournaments to the current traffic (Roberts gets tons of pleasure craft on the weekend) and it is going to be a mess.

And I know who "Jeff" is.

I dont think boat traffic will be a sufficient argument when it comes down to removing the slot.

Fish4bass, we can agree it's going to be a mess for awhile.

I've seen the club schedules and every club I am a member of plans on fishing Ray Roberts as soon as it opens in September. It is going to be a mess no doubt.

Just as the slots were an experiment, the lifting of the slot will be as well. It will be a good learning experience for our fisheries managers and only time will tell if it is successful. In the end though hopefully we will all learn more about our fisheries management. cheers
