Anybody up for a Haggar Lake and LB Houston romp this weekend?
LBH is real low, but the fish are still breaking water!

A good place to try if you just want to catch largemouth and aren't too worried about size is the Twin Lakes Ponds in northwest Richardson. There are two ponds on either side of Campell Rd just west of where it intersects Coit Rd. I've caught several smaller bass in these ponds on several different lures, everything from live worms to topwater, to spinnerbaits.
I almost hesitate to mention this location however, as there has been an increase lately of people keeping fish. I've seen fish that were too small to be keepers filleted, with the majority of the carcass thrown back. If a fish is borderline in size, that's one thing. If you like to eat one or two that's another thing (I like bass as much as anyone else). But when the majority of a fish that has not lived long enough to spawn is half-assed gutted and wasted, it really chaps my [censored]. Anyway, I'm sure that atleast most of the people here are responsible fishmen/women.
If anyone would like to go check it out, I'd be happy to accompany you, just let me know. I work a really weird schedule and have off on monday, thursday and friday. I might have tried this place..is there a bridge that goes over it? No. No bridges. Each pond has a fountain though.

Breckinridge park is a great location. There are actually three ponds around that area. All three are loaded with catfish, but I have only ever caught bass out of the one that is directly related park, with the pavillion and all. There is no real structure in that pond though except for a few reeds down at the one end, and it is heavliy pressured at times, so those bass can be difficult to catch. The pond by the apartments has some very tricky underwater sturcture that you really can't see, but forces catfish through only a couple areas. They can be really easy to locate once you figure out the structure. The bean shaped one with the longer bridge is good for cats too, and I've seen fish jump, though I can't confirm what they were. If you want to check any of these out, let me know, b.ridge is one of my favorites.

The pretty big one you fished was most likely the peanut shaped one with the larger bridge. I've caugth some good cats out of there and like I said I've seen fish jump. Last I heard cats don't jump. There are also some bluegill in there, and I don't think anyone really fishes for them there so they could probably be fairly big.

I hit up Big Lake in Plano yesterday and the bite was on. I started with a spinnerbait with no luck and switched to a tequila sunrise power worm riged on a 1/4 oz black giggy head. The first cast with the shakey head set up I pulled in a nice fatty. I stayed for about 2 hours and pulled in 4 total.
I don't think there is much pressure here as I have only seen people fishing there two times out of about 20 over the past year (other than a neighborhood kid who fishes bluegill).

The place is called Big Lake. It is located on the bike trail that runs through central Plano and it is by Christie Elementary. Below is a link to where the park is.

The last time I as at 1378 was two Sundays ago. I was tempted to head over there yesterday with the action at Big Lake but I couldn't get myself to leave the action that was going on.
The bass are pretty decent. There are a lot of blue gill in there so I would guess that is what they feed on the most. I would bet a matching crank would do well if you can avoid a the snags. There are some cats in there as well but I haven't fished for them. Got a rod in my car and I am going to head there after work today, probably get there around 5:15. With the cold weather they may have slowed down but after yesterday I can't pass it up.
The bass were jumpin out of the water. There is a creek that feeds the "lake" from the east and that is where I was fishing. Probably some warmer water coming in from there and I know it is a deeper area with some brush sunken around there.

I will be definitely hitting this Big Lake this Sunday...either there or 1378. Knot, have you been out there as of late? I know it was pretty skunky the last couple times.
