The slot should be 16-21" and not what it currently is.

Ray Roberts has some nice bass in it BECAUSE of the Slot limit. The reason many slot limits do not work, is because most bass fishermen throw back ALL of their bass. The point of a slot limit is to let the "decent sized" fish grow, and to weed out all the agressive little ones who eat up all the forage. Bass are good eating.Keep those little ones. I caught a 9.4 and a 10.5 last March in Ray Roberts, and i threw them both back. It is purely up to you whether you wanna keep the BIG ones, but KEEP the little ones where legal! Slot limits are useless if you don't keep the small ones. If you dont keep the small ones, fish will over populate and/or "over browse" their food sources. Too many fish promotes, disease, starvation, and stunted growth potential. I say KEEP THE SLOT limit. But keep the small ones that you are allowed to keep. If everyone would do that, we would have a true trophy bass lake. If we go back to the standard 14"+ rule, we will destroy Ray Roberts for years to come. Give those mid-size bass a chance to grow! And weed out the small ones!...Good fishing..Heck, Up the slot limit a couple of inches! make it like 14"-26..In a few years, we will be seeing some HOGS!!!

I've caught quite a few fish out of RR that had a five pound head on a two pound body.
I always thought this was a result of the massive amounts of Morone Chrysops (sandies) in there...
I think doing away with the slot will only do good things for RayRoberts and the surrounding area. I would venture to guess that less than 10% of hard core bass fishermen ever keep any unders anyway.

Heck, Up the slot limit a couple of inches! make it like 14"-26..In a few years, we will be seeing some HOGS!!! You just said the slot doesnt work if you dont keep unders. At best IMO mabey 1 out of 100 bass fisherman keep a limit of unders. Ray Roberts has so many big fish because of the habitat on the lake. No doubt in my mind that the state record largemouth is in that lake and has probably never seen a lure. Its not like the slot being removed will cause everyone to start cooking up 7 lb fish. From what I have been told its pretty much a done deal, the public hearing is just standard procedure. I hope thats the case, I would love to see BASS or FLW put that lake on the map. Guide business will pick up, local businesses will see more revenue (from the looks of some of them they need it!), and mabey someone will open up a decent motel next to the lake!

I say 14" min. for all lakes!!!
What could possibly be the reason for anything else when 95% of fisherman release every single bass they catch anyway. This isn't the 70's. Sure, some fish will die due to delayed mortality from tournaments, but it will be minimil and the benifits to the local communities will far out weigh any negatives.
Even better would be to set a state wide MAX limit of 14"s!!
Keep any bass UNDER 14"s, anything over has to be released.
BUT, allow fish to be retained for weigh in at tournaments and/or to certify catches at marinas.
In other words, it would be illegal to keep any bass over 14"s on any lake, but you are allowed to weigh them in and release them.
I'm sure there could be arguments made about how you would ensure no one broke these rules, but those same arguments could be made today for the current rules, especially on slot lakes.
I think something like this would be ground breaking and would result in some real hawgs in our lakes, while still allowing the local communities as well as the majority of anglers around the lakes to benifit from tournaments. It would also benifit the casual bass angler who does not fish tournaments because there would be bigger fish in all of the lakes.
Why can't something like this be implemented, tournaments release the fish alive back into the lake anyway, so why can't the law be written so everyone gets something out of it. Imagine how good some of our lakes would be if more small fish were taken out and more big fish left in.
Something like this would really take the place of a slot limit because you wouldn't have tournaments weighing in fish less than 14"s and releasing them back into the lake, they would be able to weigh in anything over 14"s and those that like to eat bass could catch as many as they wanted under 14"s and eat away meanwhile serving the purpose of the orignal "slot" idea by removing the smaller fish.
I can't see why something like this can't be done... bass fishing has changed from even 10 years ago, it seems like we need some modern thinkers to come up with modern rules instead of using ideas from the 80's. We'v been through no limits, 10 fish limits, 14" limits, and now 24" limits (slot), let's try something else, something that makes sense and make the most people happy.
The tournament fishermen would love it, they could fish tournametns on ANY lake in Texas and weigh in 5 over 14"s.
The communities would love it, they would benifit from increased tournaments
The casual fishermen would love it, there would be bigger fish in their lakes and a chance to catch a real hawg.
The meat fishermen would love it, they could load up on good tasting 1.5 pound bass.

Being in Houston I do not get to fish it as much as I would like. I would hate to see the circuits start pounding the lake if they do away with the slot. And that is exactly what will happen.
